Just posted a video on Youtube showing a trip along the line in the guards van of an ore train.

The sounds were mixed using Audacity (a freebie sound editing package) using royalty free sounds from The Free Sounds Project. The music is also royalty free from www.danosounds.com.

I have heard that Youtube sometimes pulls videos which use commercial music without permission.

Thanks for the support folks. It keeps me entertained and off the streets!

It does take a fair degree of maintenance - probably spend as much time maintaining as I do running (maybe more), but I always wanted to create a representation of a whole railway. I hadn't realised it takes about nine minutes in real time to run from the copper mine to the exchange sidings (basically back where it started) until I made the video.

I have another video 'in the can' showing a trip from terminus to terminus. I'm planning to co-ordinate this with an animated map of the line - but the animation is taking ages to do frame by frame (up to nearly 500 frames to date). Hope to post that in the next couple of weeks.

Always an 'interesting' manoeuvre - but this 'hidden' link enables me to return the loaded wagons to the copper mine sidings and swap them for the empties. Touch wood, only had one accident here so far. A leaf derailed the entire train and I had to squirm into the undergrowth on stomach to retrieve them.

Hopefully not. If it's finished what can you do except rip it all up and start again? Hopefully this will keep you busy for years to come Rik. :thumbup:
 
Inspirational video, website and trackplan Rik - I may be 'forced' to plagiarise several of your ideas :D

It looks luverly :love: - did you plan the railway around an established garden or did you build the railway and then plant the garden??

I landscaped the garden to fit round the plan I'd drawn for the railway. I was originally intending to try and fit the railway into the existing garden but none of these plans gave me what I wanted. I decided that I was only going to do it once, so I would try and get it right. I tried to build in the potential for expansion. There is another phase which could be built if ever I get the time and the funds - but for now I've got more than enough to keep me busy.

I put together a video photostory outlining the development of the railway which includes a few before and after shots, if you're interested.

I am intending doing a blog posting with video clips showing how I went around the planning process - but I think that may have to wait until the long, cold, dark winter evenings

Rik - Excellent photostory - very interesting to see how long it takes to get a garden line to look completely "lived-in". You obviously have great patience. (and a good plan, too).
