7/8" scale on display

Mike and I put our scratched and kit bashed 7/8" scale equipment on display at our club meeting recently.
Mike bashed up his ore train from an LGB stainz. Mine is the bashed LGB porter. I scratch built all of the freight cars. The figures on Mikes are 3D printed by his son, Fred, and are models. My figures are caricatures and were cast by James at "little Plastic People" and then painted by me. Some of the accessories are also 3D printed by Fred.

7/8 is a very nice scale so very tempting as the quanyptity of detail that can be incorporated. Also 1" Dolls House accesories work quite well for odd things like Mugs and Kettles and all sorts of other hard to get items.
 
I'm very tempted to try something in 7/8th, particularly as the Memsahib is very much into the 1/12 miniatures scene (dollshouses etc) and having been round a few of the related shows with her, the amount of stuff available is amazing..... of course, I probably won't get round to it anytime this side of the heat-death of the Universe, but it's nice to think about......!

They look great!
7/8ths has been growing on me. I already have the quarry Hunslet and Fairymead. A 2ft live steam Climax is also slowly coming together.
The only rolling stock I have is a long string of those ginormous Bachmann V hoppers, now all rusty and waiting on better wheels.

That's a good use for a Stainz. I have a stack of them looking for mods.
Going by the cylinders, it looks like the Americanized version, whatever it is.
It is hard to see it from the photo angles.

I too have been tempted to delve into 7/8s scale. As others have said, the detail that can be had is like putting a candy bar in front of a child.....:happy:

I also think that the little LGB Tioper Skip Wagons are a great source of 7/8's stock. They always look too big to me to be believable with normal LGB Stock.

Yeah, I recall someone saying that the LGB V dumps are fairly close to scale for 7/8ths UK 2ft quarry stock based on the hopper volume. The ones above have the Hartland hoppers on the LGB bases. They are interchangeable. I think the ginormous Bachmann V dumps were bought out for the ginormous Bachmann centre cab. The came out roughly the same time. The Bachmann V dumps are 155mm wide. Many people cut them down. I have pulled off all their little 24.5mm wheels which will go on my small LGB and Hartland stock which I prefer and will be putting on larger 4 holed wheels on the big V dumps along with brake handles and wooden platforms. They will be too large and not accurate for the Hunslet but their chunkyness has a certain appeal. I'll do a post when they are done.

Here is a build photo about 3/4 of the way complete. as you can see I changed the head light

It all started 2 years ago. After 20 years of building and running 1:20.3 models, my friend Mike started building small 2 axle cars and little engines for his RR. I love old rickety, backwoods, built on site by the rr type of modeling.
So I grabbed an LGB Porter and built this:

These are built to 1:20.3. I wish I had done them in 7/8".
