32mm indoors layout build - Elk Mountain Lodge Light Rwy.

Wanted to run live steam in the winter, working on this layout. It's built with Peco 32mm track to represent a 2 ft. Narrow Gauge line serving the Elk Mountain Lodge. The layout is the engine terminal area with a 2 stall engine house and shop, a car barn for the passenger equipment, and the commissary/warehouse complex for the Lodge. The main layout is 8 ft. by 26 inches, with an 18 in. extended switching lead.

Elk Mountain Lodge located in the Rocky Mountains in 1901 offers Guided Hunting and Fishing parties, Resort Facilities for the ladies, and indoor/outdoor Hot Springs therapeutic pools, all with First Class accommodations. The Lodge is open Spring, Summer, and Fall, and closed Winters. Management is considering Winter operations involving newly developed Ski slopes and the Hot Springs complex.

The Elk Mountain Lodge Light Railway was built by British expatriates, and they utilize shipped in railway equipment rebuilt for heavier American standards, such as link and pin couplers.
Motive power for indoors operations is a Live Steam vertical boiler Regner Chaloner.
This small switching layout serves these various functions; loads in and empties out for the warehouse area, making up the passenger train, and switching cars into the shop for repairs.

OK, going to try to post a few pics of the build;

Warehouse building flat;
the car barn for passenger equipment will go in that space by the Dremel tool when additional points/track arrive

And some loads I've made up for the warehouse;

Ahh! Someone has fixed my pics - thank you.

The small radius points work well with 4 wheeled equipment.
However, I've found that Sierra Valley wheel sets I'm using have thicker flanges, and the point guard rails need to ground down for a wider clearance on the curved side of the turnout. Hence the Dremel tool ;)

Cool, so THIS is what you were trying to post over on LSC, I dont know why some pics are now trouble to load over there, yet another example that any new forum format upgrades usually always have new problems the old forum never had.

Will there be the option for track power as well? You may find that just being able to flip a switch and run a sparky is alot simpler fun than all the setting up for steam ops.

vsmith- i'm a diehard Live Steamer, but I am considering the use of a battery powered critter...

Rob G - The Sierra Vally wheels are actually the wide tread 7/8's scale version, which I greatly admire the looks of. So, whatever it takes to be able to run them!

PaulRhB - I don't know about needed ventilation, but there's a window close by that will open. Butane gas burns pretty clean...

Cheers!

Butane runs so clean you wont even notice the lack of oxygen and carbon monoxide build up untill your asleep...........................................................

The main problem with indoor running is the Steam when it condenses back to Water. The Room will get very damp, believe me I have experience of this. Suggest that you get a Dehumidifier and run it for an hour or two both during and after you have been Steaming up. On the plus side too, you will have an endless supply of the best water that you can get for your Puffers.

I live at 6800 ft. altitude in the "High Plains" with usually 5 to 12 percent humidity, so I'm not too worried.
I've also done a lot of break-in time with Butane engines inside the house with no problems either...
