XLS with no sound any more

Hi,
I have an XLS fitted which has now no sound, approx one month after installation.
The installation was carried out professionally so don't go blaming me :)
When I attempt to turn the sound on or off using the function key, the lights, when on will flick and occasionally will flash extremely brightly very briefly, and then return to their normal brilliance. I can controll the loco fine, turn the lights and pulsed smoke generator on and off with no problem. The only issue is no sound now.
Has anyone any thoughts on this?

Anyway.. whilst thinking about the above reply..

Could it be that your Broadband problem with the 'leaky-feeder' into your cable gear, managed to feed rubbish into the decoder?

It sounds like the decoder will need swapping out, I reckon.

I don't think that is it PhilP; but one never knows with these new fangled gadgets does one!
Try a factory reset as that doesn't erase the soundfiles.

Thanks PaulRhB - I was considering that option. The Loco has to be returned as it has another install issue, but I think I'll give that a try first. Would you suggest resetting ALL of the CVs, or if not, which are the most likely candidates?

After the reset.. First thing to check is the value of CV 50, else you will blow the lights when you put track-power on.
 
Follow-up on this..

It is always the simple things to check first!! ::)
Having had the loco back, no sound as reported..

Fiddled about Went through a detailed, and highly technical diagnostic procedure.. ;) ;)

Re-loaded the sound-file, just in case.. Reset CV's 1, 29, 50, 200 as you do..
Still no sound.. >:( :( :(

Long an short (well, in this case 'open') duff loudspeaker.. Loop of wire in connector, and bells-out OK that way. Wires appear intact from connections into the speaker, but it is open-circuit.

Now chuffing along fine. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So send it back - you wouldn't try to mend your fridge would you!
 
Yes the simple things ;) a friend just had something similar in OO where they said the speaker was duff yet it played sounds for a few seconds each time it powered up. I had an ESU chip bought with sound that turned out not to have a file loaded! Fortunately I had the lokprogrammer and did it myself.
Still a learning curve ;)
