Has anyone been here?

It's opened since I did my trip on the Bure Valley Railway - just wondered what it's like and whether it's worth a return visit to Wroxham? It boasts an 'Indoor Garden Railway'

That looks quite fun for a rainy day.

Me 'n' swmbo are planning on visiting sometime later this coming week. We only live 20 miles away. I,ll report later.

I was there yesterday. Didn't have time to go in but had hoped to have a quick shuftie in the shop that was promised. Leaflet taped on the window indicated should be open in the summer. Obviously not summer yet as no shop evident. Will go back later in the year. Admission around the £9 mark. There is a cafe there but would recommend the Kings Head in the centre of Wroxham opposite Roy's for £5.95 carvery Monday to Saturday. There's also a huge wooden shed at the BVR station full of s/h books, magazines, videos etc. Lots of railway related but other tastes catered for. If you take swmbo's you might earn some brownie points.

I will be in Norfolk for a holiday at the end of August so I will check this out as well. Does that Lady still do the rounds of the Wroxham pubs who used to tell you how she was straffed by an Messerschmitt during the war in return for a pint I wonder?

Now that shows a dedication to drinking - if you buy me a pint, you can straffe me!

She claimed she was best mates with the "whistling Postman" as well :-\

The exhibition certainly sounds interesting, though I might wait until the shop is actually open before heading up there; had a look at the admission prices - all entrance fees are currently slightly discounted as an "opening season special" until July, and I noticed that their "senior" visitor discount category actually kicks in at age 55, rather than the more usual 65-ish - as that means I'll qualify in a few weeks, I don't know whether to feel pleased at the quid off or insulted! ;)

I 'might' possibly be going to Wroxham this coming weekend, so if I do, I shall report back....

If going to stay in Wroxham, I would highly recommend the Coach House B&B. Got to be about the best B&B we've stayed in. We stayed there last August when "Trousers" hired the MG TD for my birthday. I'm sure if you mention it to the owner he will remember, he had a classic Mk IV Spitfire that he'd just finished renovating. Might have to go back to see Miniature Worlds.

I'm assuming Triumph, not Supermarine....??? ;)

Must admit I'd assumed the latter - probably the mention of Messerschmidts that did it

Just listen to the engine note.. you will soon work out which!
;) :D ;D ;D ;D

A lot of mixed reviews on Tripadvisor.
It seems if you know anything about train layouts, dolls etc then you might be disappointed.
Also the staff and the cafe get a bit of a drubbing as well as the price. If you are in a wheelchair or a small child then the only way to see is to hire a stool!
Perhaps it is a visit to make if you are already in the area and can get discount vouchers.

We visited Miniature World this Sunday.

There were four main layouts (with another very large 00 to be built), a UK one in 00, a European (German/Swiss) in HO, a Japanese one in N, and the G scale one with mainly Piko products.

All looked like typical shop displays, as if they were straight out of the box, rather than a highly detailed exhibition layout. But they were all good never the less, and if it encourages people into the hobby then it's a good thing IMO.

The G scale layout had a couple of end to end shuttles and a couple of circuits, and the track although screwed to boards, had typical garden centre gravel. The grass of course was artificial (as were the bunny rabbits) since the railway is indoors, but as an example to show what could be done, and encourage others into the hobby, then it was fine. It was good fun.

We also visited Merrivale Model Village in Great Yarmouth over the weekend.

Again, we found it to be good fun and we enjoyed looking around. The layout uses mainly LGB track and trains, with a few of the newer items being Piko. It is a large twin track oval and has 4 trains running, 2 on each circuit that are switched alternatively at the station, using LGB track components and point motors. The gardens and plants were being maintained by a dedicated team of 3 gardeners (even on the Sunday and during heavy showers), and the blooms really set off the whole scene.

Cost for both venues was about £7-8 each, and refreshments seemed to be reasonably priced. We both enjoyed the shows.

I would recommend a visit to either if you are holidaying in the area, but think of it as entertainment, rather than serious modelling....
