Wiring LGB Control Box 51800

Good evening all. Greetings from Co. Armagh. As a newcomer to garden railwaying I have been sifting through this site with interest and am aware of the vast amount of expertise available to me. As a believer in,'there are no stupid questions', I would like to sort out my difficculty when trying to wire up an LGB control box, 51800. I have an understanding if wiring basic circuits and switches but this is annoying me. I have read through the relevant parts of the LGB pdf 'World of Trains' for guidance but without success. I am wiring a 50110 though a signalman's hut. I have wired the track correctly and have bridged the gap. Trains run when I use a simple on-off switch but not when using the box. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have attached a photo to show the embyonic nature of the line. There is a high level dumbell for watching trains with a lower shunting set of sidings for shunting stock.
I fear that this is just the start of many questions to you.
Best wishes,
Anglian

I've not used a 51800, but from looking at the instruction sheet it has two input terminals, 4 switched outputs and an unswitched output pair which plug into the next 51800 if you have more than one. So you can use it either for track sections by feeding it with DC from the controller, or for lighting accessories if you feed it AC.

So in your case don't you simply feed the controller output into the box, connect your switched track sections to the switched outputs. As long as you use consistent polarity all should be fine.

If you're only isolating one rail, and always the same rail, you only need to use the #2 input terminal and the marked switched output terminals. As per the 51800 instruction sheet figure 4.

Post a track plan with your isolated sections marked, someone can then draw out the wiring if that's what you need?

Thank you so much, especially for replying so promptly. I went straight through to the test track and it worked first time. I was trying to over-complicate matters! Thanks again, until the next time. Anglian

I think I replied in the wrong location. Thank you so much for your help and prompt reply. I went straight to the test track and it worked first time! I was obviously just over- complicating things. I am going to enjoy this site. Best wishes, Anglian

No, it was fine.. You replied in Post #4 above. :):nod:

Many thanks Gizzy. I was somewhat hesitant about posting anything but it's good to be in contact with like-minded individuals with regards to outdoor railways. I have been told that I was going through my second childhood to which my good wife replied that I hadn't managed to get through my first. A.

When I was starting to embrace the EPL System, I too was thoroughly confused. I am a black to black, white to white and payday is Friday kind of electrical knowledge person.....LOL So I threw out everything I knew about basic electricity and simply followed the words in the book, "The World of LGB".

The EPL System doesn't seem to make any sense but if you do as I said, you should come out with everything working according to Hoyle.
