Hello friends,
I'm in GB from the 28th March till 6th April. I'm staying in Stoke on Trent. I would like to go shows for garden railway, or even better something to do with Trams in that scale.

Does anybody know things to visit? May be I'm going to Wales for a train / tram trip and to the tram museum in Crich.

Peter

there are trams at heaton park manchester and there are trams in liverpool in the docks,,, and some trams and trolley buses at the black country museum in wolverhampton

all these are relatively close to stoke

stoke is famous for its pottery and there are a few museums for that

quite a few steam railways in the area too

Have a look here http://www.visitstoke.co.uk/

you have forgotten Foxfield!

If you want trams, and can make a 'day trip' of it, then Crich Tramway Museum is not really too far away.

Depending where in Stoke you are, even Chasewater is only about anhour away. - Vested interest. Industrial small tank loco's on a colliery branch line.

Oh yes! Plenty of railways here. :)

Chasewater is worth a visit if only to see a certain G scale layout that certain forum members will be able to tell you about ;)

For me Apedale is a must-see venue - if you like small industrial two foot gauge locomotives - sorry no trams. The track itself is not very long but the collection of locos is probably without comparison anywhere else. it opens for the season on the 4,5,6 April. Here`s a sample of some of their stock on one of their Gala Days

I`ve blogged a couple of visits here - ngruk.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/apedale-valley-light-railway.html

Birkenhead transport museum. Not been myself, but they do have a number of operating trams

http://www.mtps.co.uk

A quick blast up the M6/M56/M53, or trains would be via Chester or Liverpool & then on Merseyrail to Birkenhead.

Walsall transport museum has 'vintage' buses.. Not sure if they had / have trams..

Chasewater G can field several LGB / Bachmann trams.. All 'as out the box though'.. :D :D ;D ;D ;D

If you make it to Birmingham, there is Tyseley (standard gauge railway). Not quite so far is the Black Country Living Museum. - You need a day there really. Lots of industrial heritage. Local history.. Whether they have their trams running again I am not sure??

Unfortunately, Peter, the dates of your trip fall exactly between the two large-scale shows that are around that time - G-Rail in Stafford on the 22nd March, and the 16mm NGA show at Peterborough on 11th April! :(
I don't suppose it's possible for you to move your trip by a week in one direction or the other, so that you could make it to one of them...?

Jon.

Hi Peter. I´ll be going to Peterborough, if you want to meet up!

oh and there monkey world,, thats at trentham gardens,,,,, in stoke too

lot of monkeys running about,,,,,

ooh ooh aah aah,,,,

Hello out there,
thank you all for your tips. I'll go and save them for later.

At the moment, I'm having more contact with my bed and my doctor. He sends me off for 10 days. May be longer. Hopefully not. I can't lay down all that time and tried to work on my models. Problem after an hour I must stop and relax. Normaly I work twice a week for nearly 5 hours on theses things.

Even sitting in front of the computer and work with that is not really helpfull and funny.

It is a pitty, that I can't change the dates. I would love got for Peterborouh. But there are some creatures comming with me, I think somethiomes we call them women, or ladies. I, or better 3 of us are invited to visit a friend in Stoke on trent. These two females can only use the German school holiday times, because they are working in a school cafeteria.

Sorry Andrew, that would have been a godd meeting. I'll send you an Email.

Surprised the Foxfield railway has not been mentioned yet (did I miss something ?). See here http://foxfieldrailway.co.uk/ On the outskirts of Stoke on Trent itself. It's considered by many to be the UK's premier industrial based standard gauge line and has the oldest working steam engine in the UK - Berlopheron. Also has the steepest, at 1 in 19, adhesion worked line in the UK. Apparently quite an experience if you get to go up that part on the line. Lots to see and do and it's operating during the period you are visiting. Max.
