WGRG Visit to Gerald's Railway

Sunday 8th August 2010 and the Wellington Garden Railway Group Inc payed their first visit to the new railway of member Gerald, situated near Porirua.

The railway is two separate loops, the top level loop is the larger of the two loops. The rocks are a dominant feature having come from an approved source on the Wairarapa coast.

As in any running day as well as the Hosts stock lots of guest equipment ran, here Chris D is racking up his train on the top level.

There was some debate as to wether it would fit through the bridges with that big funnel?
IMG_3698.JPG

Yep it made it through the bridge but...
IMG_3696.JPG

...it didn't fit through the rather nice wooden tunnel mouth - drat!
IMG_3697.JPG

No problem for Gerald's pig nose railcar
IMG_3700.JPG

Shay'll fit too ;)
IMG_3707.JPG

The pig nose railcar again, here coming off one of the bridges crossing over the lower loop.

Action down on the lower loop. Is Chris check that funnel again?

IMG_3701.JPG

Peter's icecream train in the loop, waiting for Chris's train to pass.
Nice Model T alongside the station too.
IMG_3702.JPG

Ahh, there's that funnel again - all safe on the lower loop :)

IMG_3703.JPG

It's a rather nice loco, and a nice village scene too!

There is a pond too, makes from some nice reflections (don't worry there will be some other trains soon, :Looser: )

Of course no new railway in Wellington is not complete untill it has had a visit from my Dubs A
In the background a few over the over 60's having a rest

Passing the signal box...
IMG_3718.JPG

...and a better view of the nice Model T as the Dubs A pulls into the station.
IMG_3722.JPG

Time now for a bit of big American diesel power...
IMG_3723.JPG

So while we had big diesel power on the smaller lower loop we had small diesel power on the larger upper loop:rolleyes:
IMG_3721.JPG

Ian G's Mack and work train
IMG_3720.JPG

And we can't get to much smaller than Ian's Waddlin' Goslin' which is battery powered with a Revolution chip all on board...
IMG_3724.JPG

The Mack and it's work train again...
IMG_3725.JPG

And the Waddlin' Goslin' again - I like the cute wee thing :)
IMG_3719.JPG

Towards the end of the afternoon we got a bit of sun which highlights the rock wonderfully...
IMG_3727.JPG

And so ended a great day, on an exciting new railway. Lots of other stuff ran but as I also spent time pleasantly engaged in conversation I didn't record everything on film. Oh and I was also eating cake, yummy cake
IMG_3728.JPG

Thanks Gerald.

Ah...nice to see dubs on his travels. Goodly layout...very envious of those rocks, especially when the sun hits them :cool:

Very impressive RR bridge!
is it self-made???

Greetings

Frank

Hi Frank

Both bridges are proprietary models, I think the wooden truss bridge is an Aristo-craft one and the steel one sorry I forget the make.

Oh and a correction the pig nose railcar is Murray B's not Gerald's - sorry Murray ;)

Looks excellent. Might I suggest a little more loose track ballast though - that would really finish some of those cameos off.

Nice railway; very photogenic. I like the Mack with side rods. Is that a standard loco, or a conversion?

Yes your right John, a reballast was in Gerald's plans, but all the recent rain not only kept washing it away but stopped him doing the top up.

The Mack is a scratch build, I think on a Bachmann 44T switcher bogie/motor block.
