Any recommendations? Windows Movie Maker converts crystal clear clips into fuzzy images. Just tried Adobe Premier Essentials...even worse!

What software do you guys use, recommend or swear by?

A friend of mine who's a keen photographer got the free version of Serif Movie Maker but found it was a bit unreliable when rendering in HD. However, he really liked the interface and editing features and so upgraded to the paid-for version (£25 on special offer I believe) and says its marvellous. He's just created a slide show of stills he took at his son's wedding which he reckons is better than the one made by the professional photographer (and I have no reason to doubt him).

I still use the freebie version which I find is OK for basic editing.

Eg see - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7zAn8Nuc24

There are quite a few features in the freebie version which I've not played with yet (eg picture-in-picture etc.)

Thanks for that lads, I did try downloading the freebie twice today, on both occasions when it had finished and invited me to "run" there was nothing on my computer!

I sometimes use virtualdub, it's free but it can't handle wmv files. I still use Movie Maker 2.6 for most of my editting. I don't have any 'fuzzy' problems, but haven't tried hi-def. Live MovieMaker is its replacement and is a 'dog'.

i use windows movie maker and premiere elements all the time but am forever juggling with the output settings to get the right resolution / wide /standard etc. to test the output without rendering the whole thing, i save it then cut to just a minutes worth and render that to check if the settings are ok. if so just reload the whole project and re-render. will check out serif program, seems popular. ... mart

hmmm, looks like its only free for 14 days then a lot of the import codecs dont work unless you pay 4.99 for them. cant be bothered with that. mart

Thanks for all the assistance chaps.....I think I have it sorted..............Got this new Sony Desktop in September and spent ages turning Windows 8 into something that was more XP style.

Dug up all the Apps I had discarded from the Metro page (Hells Teeth!) and found one called Platinum 12....................it works!!!..............Have made a movie from my HD camera and the finished quality is as good. Also unlike some of the others it doesn't stop responding. The vid Takes up the neck end of 1GB.so I think I have it cracked!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Windows movie maker works fine for me without the fuzzy stuff. When Im done I always upload to the HD setting. It takes longer to upload on youtube but the quality is a tad better then if I didn't upload using the HD setting.
