The Via Fier Engiadina has finally (after much negotiation with the Graubuenden finance department) taken delivery of its latest loco - 8 Thusis. Here it is attached to the Brawa 4 wheelers this afternoon - probably the last operating day this year before the weather closes in. Can't wait for next year, to pair it up with the G4/5 or the early electrics. Think I prefer it in black to the modern green version. [Note to self - turn sound off (it's not very realistic anyway) except when neighbour's noisy kids are screaming); it's very loud!]

I always thought that the black suited them better too, a handsome engine indeed !

Now that looks the dogs nuts to me. Paired with matching coach s. Mmmmmm lovley.......:love::love::love:

Nice....

Kind comments much appreciated - @PaulRhB - yes, but how? - the instructions seem silent on how to adjust the sound.

@annieshalt - the catenary, ah yes, the catenary - I made the mistake of doing a Reading on the principal station - R3 points everywhere, proper spans instead of single masts - took most of the summer with several complete occupations... Next year, like Network Rail, I hope to run some trains

try pulling the top off the ?safety valve? dome (nearest cab), there may well be a potentiometer shaft under it to reduce the volume..

If a later model, I have found volume controls under the small oval tank fillers..

Hope that helps?
PS> There is a little 'pip' on the dome top that needs locating when you replace it.
EDIT:
OK, forget that lot!!

Volume control is behind smokebox door..

I was just about to say that!

Also, when I had one, I found that two beats per rev rather than four was more pleasing on the ear.

She's a beauty, and those coaches and van sure are nice too!

BTW, the Massoth pulsed smoke makers fit into the smoke box very nicely--there are rails inside that it slides on. You have to nip off a couple of tabs on the smokemaker that aren't required but it's designed to fit right in otherwise. The smokestack unscrews, you slide in the SM, then the smokestack fits back in and holds the SM in place. Since yours is the sound version, you already have the axle/sensor/cable for the chuff timing so it's a piece of cake to install, and the results are smokin'!

Go for it!!
I just got a Massoth pulsed smoker AND an XL decoder in the smokebpx of a Mallet. Left the analogue sound and it worked a treat! - I made a 'carrier' out of 12-thou plasticard to mount the smoker.. This then slid in above the screw-mounts for the fake tube-plate. Decoder slid under this from the back.

I admit it was a little 'snug'!

Very nice ! Also nice to see catenary it finishes a layout off.

I have one of these, to turn the sound down, just open the smokebox door and turn the red thingy anticlockwise. You can try it at any level, just by turning the dial.
Yes, it's a lovely loco John
