Spent a little time in that well-known Swedish furnishing store today. Passing through the carpet department saw something that might be useful as chain-link factory fencing for g scale. It's an anti-slip mat to put under rugs and is called STOP. Not sure what size - perhaps about 1500x750mm and priced at about £4, I think. The mesh is rubberised, so no problem outdoors. The holes are about 1/8th inch square. You could cut it on the diagonal to get the normal diamond pattern of fencing.
