Tunnel portal size

I need to put some tunnel mouths in my engine shed for the trains to run out of what size should I make them single track ones.
Thanks

Well reading the over pass thread it would seem 200 mm would be the minimum from the track, and I would think about 160 mm for the width, depending whether its on a curve or not!

Are we to assume that:
'Tunnel mouths' are holes, with hatches?
'Engine Shed' is referring to a 12" to the foot store, for said engines?
;)

Doesn't it depend on the largest locomotives you are going to shed height and width? For example, for a Stainz I would think minimum 120mm wide x 175mm high.

Do you want them to look decorative from the outside, like actual tunnel mouths, or purely functional?

Jon.

How about those who are lucky enough to have 'sheds with holes in', give a photograph, and dimensions? :nerd:

Or is that being to obvious? :nerd:

Reading between the lines it seems (at least to me) that what you are talking about is loco storage on the layout that will be disguised as a tunnel, as opposed to an engine shed in an engine yard.
Its just (to me anyhow) engine shed and tunnel mouths don't quite go together.

What I mean is I want to cut holes in my shed where I keep my engines (engine shed) and descise them as tunnel mouths

FWIW the hatch in my shed is 170mm wide and 270mm tall measuring from track bed / bottom of sleepers. That's tall enough to allow for catenary.
