Down at the Long Sault train show this weekend, I came across this 7-1/4" gauge club.

Green Valley is a crossroads "somewhere in Eastern Ontario" down near the Quebec border. Haven't been that way in years, but I am tempted now. They are putting together a good-sized ride-on railroad in a bush lot. I think I saw a King among other locos on their video, but it went by rather too quickly for these old eyes.

Nice caboose. I don't know how many men it took to get it up on the table.

They are experimenting with plastic sleepers as an alternative to wood. The plastic ones aren't solid, but a channel moulding with diagonal cross-ribs, the idea being that they will be less likely to twist or warp.

We've been using plastic sleepers over here for years on 7 1/4"G, made from re-cycled plastic, but solid. They don't warp or twist and don't get out of gauge, nor do they rot. The only minor problem encountered is that they don't take kindly to embers from steam locos being dropped on them, but they ydon't usually catch on fire, just smoulder a bit.

Yes, Green Valley told me their ties/sleepers are recycled plastic (old milk bags). I think they are hoping for reduced track maintenance.

I don't think my old milk bag would take kindly to... oh, have I misunderstood something? :tmi:
