Planning to be in Karlsruhe on Friday, 9th Jan. :D

"Is there anything must see?"
As much as possible :)
Will you have time to travel on it? I'd say a trip to Drei Annen Hohne and up the Brocken would be the best quick fix. If a little time at DAH there are some multi train crosses there to watch. Another trip would be via the mainline to Quedlingburg to do part of the Selketal line as it's faster if time is limited than going all the way round the HSB.
Look for Nemos & the lads threads on trips there as there are some good photos to tempt you :)

In one day you can go up to Drei Annen Hohne, up the Broken, back to DAH and then go south to Eisfelder Talmauhle and back to Wernigerode.
To fit that lot in you need to be on the first or second Steam train out of Wernigerode in the morning. All by steam. last year that would have been 35 euro. Loads of options but watch out for a day full of railcars if going over to the Selketalbahn (Quedlinburg) - mostly steam is possible but check the timetables carefully.
