Track Leveling

My track has been down about 6 years now and has settled some what. So during the summer I have been doing some Pway work. My line has grades on most of it, so not much to level. But the track itself has become out of level !. I was using a small torpedo level but keep knocking it off the track. So I brought 2 of these cheap on eBay. 20151114_102900 (600 x 360).jpg

I think what you really need is something like this....

I have seen those small double levels mounted on a small flat car. Push it along for an instant read out.

Just look, if it was a wee bit smaller it could check gauge at the same time! :nerd:
Nifty bit of kit, though

Damm fine piece of kit mate,
Definitely on the hunt for one of those now.

If not have an idea on how to make one...

Thanks......

Level is a strange concept, considering we live on what is in essence a ball :nerd:

Sounds like a lot of balls to me :p:p:p:p:p

I level my track with the Mk1 eyeball - think 1:1 track is level? try riding on British trains :tmi::tmi::tmi::tmi:

Such is very true. But what shape is a piece of string stretched tight between to points? :giggle::giggle:

Try riding Yankee ones!!! :sweating:

I should perhaps have called them Confederate, as these particular ones actually ran from New Orleans, but did go to Chicago.

just bought two for under 3 squid on fleabay....they will come in handy in the spring!

Why go to E-Bay when you can get them from your local hardware store.

For the forum members down under go to Bunnings, and only $ 4.95

The sting level will make things easier to.

£1.99 and free postage! Actually they are being posted to my son's address over the border. Being a Yorkshireman (abroad - with short arms and deep pockets) I have the ability to spot a potential bargain. Our hardware stores in this rural hinterland would not probably know what it was for (as I didn't until Alan posted) if it hit them on the back of the head. Besides, you have to calculate how much it would cost to go and purchase in person.

I've been on the City of New Orleans too. Yes, it is a mite bumpy, to say the least. Certainly not Confederate, as that organization ceased to exist in 1865. Yankee refers to folks from the North, particularly the North East. The route of the City of New Orleans was the Illinois Central, called the Main Line of Mid America.

I'm not sure it really matters what they get called, it's the roughest bit of commercial line I've ever been on. We overnighted from N.O. to Chic. and didn't stop our 'rockin' an' rollin'' 'til about three days after. Don't know how the other half coped, she gets queasy on a pendolino going to the 'Smoke'.

Yes, roughest bit of track I've ever been on too. Taking a shower in the 70 year old Pullman suite was an experience to say the least.
We do mind what we're called here in the South, we're not Confederates (except for a few Rednecks!) and we certainly aren't Yanks
