Well it seems good form to keep all one's piccies etc in one thread, so here's mine!

I just wanted to share some pictures that showed the new yard area at the end of the garden. This has a long passing loop/siding and then 4 smallers sidings too. They are all insulated and switched with big waterproof switches suitable for use with the foot or a shunting stick.

You may also spot I am starting to bring a Cogges Railway colour scheme into play. The Cogges Railway is a tumble down affair re-opened by some preservationists on the Island of Cogges. The liveries are badly applied and rarely cleaned as befits a mainly volunteer staff who are busy trying to eek a living on the island- but also fits yours cack handed truly. There are ore and logging operations which subsidise the tourist trains. The island is temperate and geographically placed such that stock and motive power is american and european and the local workshops regauge locos where they have to (rule 8 ok?!)

A rusting connie sits in the open air waiting restoration. Sorry Mr Mike Beavercreek, her gearbox let go even though I was only running her light engine as I was well aware of teh drive train issue, so no worries there! The repair was well beyond me (I researched over on Large Scale) and I would rather spend the money on something different than get a specialist to fix even if I could find one. Anyway I guess people spend more on birdbaths etc. I like the way I can sit in the warm and see her lonley and rusting just as on many preserved line! Yes i salvaged the tender wheels and a few other pieces before abandoning her. The gear box is so knackered she tows very well - meaning I can shunt her about etc and make her part of a interesting train being dragged etc. But no human hand is ever touching her again he he he....

And any suggestions for buildings for the spaces (that I can buy) would be great. The Station is going between the main line and the relief line.

Ooh these rugged outdoor switches sound interesting... are they from somewhere like B&Q or somewhere more specialist?

These are good Ian and would stand up to pretty much anything the kids can throw at them (literally :rolf: ).

Liking your weathering efforts BTW .

Eyup Mr Cogges! Are you going to be planting some alpines in the gravel? Looking good, what sort of era station do you plan to have? Cant wait for more pics! Its great seeing what others are doing...........

Lookin' good, Coggesy !
I think you may have to condier making a couple of buildings... maybe a US outline wooden depot & a large (tall) industry between the two siding tracks. The only reason I suggest this is that you have a LOT of space to fill, and most of the buildings you can buy just aren't that big. Once you have a couple of larger structures to give the space some shape, then you can add other, more readily available, buildings. Given that the relief line is at least 16 feet long, then a 4 foot depot and a platform will sit nicely at one end - although it will seem huge when you are trying to build it.
Grab a few cardboard boxes and some tape and go and have a play with the space.

Hey thanks all - switches were from screwfix and quite pricey £8 each i think but as they are staying there for a long time i thought i worth the investment. Thanks chaps for the building links and suggestions. I need to think carefully so I don't make access really tricky! I want the buildings to be as neutral as possible in terms of outline but that probably isn't possible. Yes I will be finding some plants for it too - it's quite a harsh look right now. Also forgot to mention the retaining railway sleeper - made sure it was a real reclaimed on - only right really

That looks great and it gives you a lot of options for buildings. I would avaiod putting too many buildings. Keep it simple. I would just put in a station, a depot or engine house, an office building, a water tower and a coaling station. To fill in the gaps put in some nice plants taller ones in the back and shorter stuff towards the front. that should blend with the building nicely. Concentrate on the smaller details. Also I love that engine rusting away. I have a porter that dies on me. Now it sits along side the engine house rusting away.
