the Uerdinger gets an international comeback on GRR-tracks.

Where are the furry creatures???
U will need a "furry-creature"-car for them.

Frank

so u are missing the experience of driving such a railbus. ....SUCH one; there were several realy "lumpy" ones, yes.
But the "Uerdinger" is a 1950-er construction and very comfortable, because they have airsuspension, even the cars!

Because of that, they could go with 90 km/h without problems.

The one-motor VT95 had a special middel-bumper-coupling (Scharfenberg), the later VT98 had "normal" light-constructed couplings. Advantage was: they could take every car that the railbus could pull. Disadvantage was: some railroaders never got the meaning of "light construction". Those railbusses had to be inserted to a train EVER at the end of the train. Otherwise you could easyly rip of the couplers.
You mustnt use the bow of a normal coupler in the hook of a railbus. there was very silly measurment-äquivalent, and it could easily be that the bow snapped in the hook at the first strain...that goes IN, but never more OUT. So u had always to use the railbus bow to fit into the normal hook. That was no problem.

Just a little footmark:
we (friends of the rackRR Honau-Lichtenstein http://www.zhl.de) < Link To www.zhl.de e.V.) have some VT97 railbusses, from which there were only a few constructed for the racktrack. Beneth of that, they were the same as the VT98.

Frank

.....***puzzeled..... the link does give a ")" too much, no clue where it comes from?????

..and...there where also the VT96..i forgot...but its all the same familiy

I understand that the ride in those rail-buses could be a little ......... errrrr ....... lumpy. Hope there weren't any hang-over related "accidents". :'(

Good to see trains running somewhere:thumbup:.

It took a while to get things running and I couldn't face the noise of a kettle boiling to unfreeze the return loop points, but being out in the cold air certainly helped clear my head...... :bleh:

Ruritanian Railways regrets that all services are subject to delay or cancellation until the rails are rediscovered.....

Ruritanian Railways is pleased to announce that an emergency service is operating between Zenda and the international frontier to rescue travellers stranded by recent snowfalls.

After Herculean efforts by the railway staff, a narrow path has been opened through the drifts:

RR's rake of vintage equipment was pressed into service. Some people were trying to get through neck-deep snow to reach the train. Chief Engineer W.O. Owl provided on the spot guidance to the drivers.

Seen from a Cessna 182 of Ruritanian Airlines, on arrival at Pootank Halt, Ruritanian Railways' Managing Director beckoned marooned travellers to join the special train:

This chap had particular reason to be grateful!

The train is saluted by the MD having reached the frontier station. Beyond the way remained blocked, but the path is safely open to the warmth and comfort of our nation's capital. Another solid day's work for Ruritanian Railways!

cats are just

"corious"
"eating"
"sleeping"
"doing important"
"beneath my feet" or "in the way"

I never saw my cat doing something useful, neither helping passengers out of the snow.

Whatlep has no backlamp, he has a shining Tigger.....too cute!

Most certainly! It defends our small, but perfectly formed Principality from any unwelcome visitors, especially those damn Slobovians. :'(

Gee You blokes sure are dedicated with a capital D.
Cold aside, it all looks kind of fun, though doubt I'll ever have that experience. Next winter (if we get one) when I'm outside in 8 deg. or so, perhaps I shouldn't feel cold after seeing what you blokes go through.
Cheers Grant.
PS won't even ask why the name for the halt. :rolf:

This is nothing, now when I were a lad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great pictures and a great story line.

I hope they are not English tourists neck high walking to the train. If they are, she will be wearing a flimsy mini frock and high heels, he will be in a T shirt and jeans. The will probably not feel the cold as they will have had more to drink than can be easily imagined and probably need a St Bernard each - yes I know buzzer goes repeatition of probably.

Happy New Year

Heavy snow during the past week caused a complete standstill on Ruritanian Railways until this afternoon. Conditions on Pootank Pass were particularly severe:

After considerable effort, the station area at Zenda was cleared, revealing two English tourists still strolling along the platform in search of a cup of leaves with boiling water.

The usual pilot locomotives made a trial trip through newly cut snow:

Despite all the effort, there were no passengers to be found at the frontier station. The crew retreated hastily to Zenda for a warming Apfelstrudel.

Not much been happening on RR recently, given the weather, but I've spent a few slightly fraught hours constructing this:

A bit awkward to construct to my mind, but it does the job. It's pretty large too!
