Good morning all,

I've not started a thread on my railway since the new forum was set up and since I've finally got round to rebuilding, it seemed a good time to start :)

My railway is the Narborough and Littlethorpe Light Railway, based around a 'could of been' preserved railway in my local area.

Today I did some testing of my new plow in my favourite kind of weather :) seen here being shoved by Terrier. Sorry about the Black an White, I must have left it set on my phone.

I'' try and keep the thread up to date as I progress through the rebuild. Mainly it's just of the baseboard in the shed, which had sagged about 6 inches making it almost impossible to run anything reliably.

I'm building the new baseboard myself, without the hole in the middle, and of a much stronger construction. so this time I'll actually get round to adding some scenic stuff to it. So far I've planned an open sided barn style shed and have laser cut the parts for some coal saithes at my school

Also this is my latest finished project, always annoyed me that while running a preserved railway that my LGB shortie couldn't haul anything backwards, so I designed and built a shunter's platform for the front end.

What do people think? any comments on how it could be improved would be appreciated.

Re - Mike. The new front end looks good, and much better for operation, as you say. I think the brakeman riding on the new front footstep might appreciate something to hold onto. Perhaps a vertical stanchion at each end of the pilot beam, or else a horizontal handrail.

Looks brilliant , love the fact your shortie is called Mike :rolf:

Ahh yes I hadn't thought of that, I'll have to get some made straight away :)

:D haha steve, not intentional... honest :)

I like that new front end, I might do somrthing similar to my Shortie

Newest project:

As a large portion of my line's history is based on aggregate trains I thought it apt to have the capacity for at least one decent train. Ideally I would have liked 4 or 5 of the LGB four wheeled hoppers but as they've now completely priced me out this option was not viable. I did consider that bachmann ones but these are a little big for my line.

What I needed was a bachmann hopper, but articulated. So I designed one:

I then produced a net of this 3D model and sent it to be cut out on my school's laser cutter out of MDF. Scratch building, the modern way  Lacking on detail for now, but Once I'm sure it all works right detail parts can be made later.

Today I brought home all the parts. This is what I have:

And the floor and ends

I will post on here as I build and test. If all goes well I hope to make a second and possible even a third. and in case anyone was wondering the cost so far has been about £2.50

Look out I.P.Engineering here comes Ricky

Still got a little bit to go yet Steve :) Though I wouldn't mind having a go at some of their axelboxes.

Hi Mark, yeah I've not used the new forum a whole lot till lately, probably something to do with not being able to run anything in about 6 months or so. Still not a lot more to do now :)

Today I have been progressing on my hopper aswell as some other projects.

The body starting to go together :)

An overall view of the new baseboard, the mod roc is disguising where I've built in a ramp to ease off the incline outside the shed.

And Finally, the timbers for my new shed laid out. will be open sided with a suitably weathered tin roof on top.

Hi bram,

sorry I didn't see this, thankyou :) If you'd like any detailed pictures or anything just ask :)

Been progressing in my hopper build, after getting it nearly done the first time all glue froze in the garage and set brittle. So it came to pieces (unintentionally) and I started again.

Got the first side done now, nice and strong this time. I found that I'd cut the ends to short so I added the missing width with coffee stirrers.

And a size comparison with a stainz, looks to have come out a quite a decent size I think :)

Hello all :)

Not posted an update in a while but I have been making progress, mainly with my articulated hopper build.

First off finished the bogies, not an awful lot there really but the good news is the 6 wheeler does R1s :)

Painted one half so far, will letter and number once everything's together. Another quite massive thing I missed is the hopper doors, but I will cut these out when I make the second.

Last picture is a comparison with a Bachmann coach. Is a bit taller so for the second I think I will cut down the height a bit, especially as I want to put in a spacer to lift the floor off the chassis.

Overall as it stands at the moment I don't think it's that bad :) a bit boxy but then, hoppers are. Any feedback on how to help its looks will be appreciated.
Ricky

very good mate!! u keep working hard on it..wink

Made a little bit more progress during a free period at school today.

Based the new bogies on the Vulcan archbar type, very loosely. Think I need to do a little more strengthening on the three axle version but it's otherwise looking ok :)

Light years ahead in tecnology

Also hopefully in the next couple of days a new locomotive will be arriving in the form of an Aristocraft 0-4-0. This will be completely repainted as it is currently sporting a Teddy Bear Railroad livery. I will also be adding some low side tanks and a bunker to try and make it a bit more prototypical, something along the lines of this:
