Super wire

Everything's bigger in America, so maybe their feet are longer too, which means that it's really not that expensive.

Humm, this is a pretty big cable, AWG 2 is almost equal to 35mm so as a 4 core that's a lot of copper  also the designation means it is a flame retardant low halogen cable (does not emit nasty stuff if it gets burned). So not something you would need on the average G gauge railroad :tmi:

Yes, the gauge is quite large. And there are 259 strands in each conductor. So there is alot of copper. I know copper prices are up, but there must be a use for wire like this that I don't know about, and I know everything.....:D

Type W cable - designed for temporary and permanent power for portable generators, AC, grounding, power extension, shore power, mining,

Three-phase + earth, 190Amp capacity

Sort of thing you would see on an outside broadcast, or festival site, from the generator vans to whatever..

Free shipping though, imagine the weight of that stuff!!

So it's all about language - english is English - except when used outside England!

As most people on this forum are aware, I am the founder member, chairman, treasurer, membership secretary and sole member of the cooker cable club, which seeks to use a suitably sized cable to reduce voltage loss in a supply to the mid-point of a garden railway circuit.

The cooker cable club has considered the use of the described superwire, and considers that, while it may be fit for purpose, doubts remain as to the economic benefits :nerd::nerd::nerd::nerd::nerd::nerd:

Ah, but think of the 'musicality' for your Hi-Fi, if you could get it 'oxygen free'!!
;):rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I recall my son having a stern sound system in his bedroom when he was a teenager. He was into all of the latest technology, at the time, to make his bedroom a mini-theatre. He bought "Monster cable", which had or has many strands of copper for each conductor. So I suppose "Super wire" would work pretty well in a sound system. One day I was in the back yard. His bedroom windows face the yard. He put in the Jurassic Park video and I thought dinosaurs were coming across the field.

It's when you have to uprate the alternator, and drop two of the amplifiers on tick-over, else the car stalls at the traffic lights, you have a problem.. ;):rolleyes:

Sniffed an obscure paddo..?

Yes in the hi fi scene they go mad about power cables, cinch cables, digital cables and loudspeaker cables. Having a 'decent' set myself I find it entertaining to study cables and their influence in my system. Many dealers have 'demo suitcases' filled with high end cables they will lend you for a weekend for testing. Mucho fun! And most fun is to be had when you find another piece of cable dirt cheap that 'plays' very well. Currently I use a four strand loudspeaker cable (2 strands per lead) by which I was blown away. Costed about 4 euro's a meter.

In the living room I use a self made cable made out of UTP cable! Sounds really 'clean'.

Forty years ago, while building my house, I installed speakers in various rooms and outside on the patio. The speakers were items I had acquired during renovations at the University of Pennsylvania. Wire was obtained in a similar manner. One job, in particular, had miles of heavy duty zip cord, what I call lamp cord. Well, thats what I used for wiring the system. It all came back to a Sony receiver I had from my bachelor days, mounted in a wall. From there, I could play the radio and LPs on my turntable. It all sounded good to me and at the time was almost state of the art, but by today's standards, is caveman technology.....LOL

On home automation systems we use 2.5mm stranded flex for speakers, far superior to most speaker cables and cheeper, avalible in 2 core, 3 core, 4 core, just sleve the ends to identify conductors.

I used to run a pair of quad II valve amps with electrostatic speakers. The cables used to make a huge difference in sound quality. Mind you you didn't need a heater when they were running! Those valves had a very nice glow in the dark.......
