Such a thing as scale timber in the UK

I've done a bit of searching but unless I'm using the wrong terminology, there doesn't seem to be a UK supplier of scale timber. Is that true?

I have a set of turntable plans which helpfully give scale lumber dimensions; particularly useful for the US as I believe you can get for example 8x10" in the scale you are working in

I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something before I go through the plans and convert them to scaled measurements, then cut timber to size...

If you have access to BnQ or Wicks you may just be surprised at the amount of small cut Lumber that may just work for you. Look for Wood Moldings and the like.
 
I doubt there would be anything sold as specific "scale timber" as people will use different scales for their models. You can certainly get strip wood in various sizes, so it's just a case of calculating the dimensions you need for your model and see what's available. If there's nothing close, you may need to resort to creating your own from larger section using a modeller's table saw.

I would think the best best for ready cut strip is going to be dolls house and boat builder similar suppliers as per the links previously posted. Years ago my late Dad used to build caravans and horse carts, he bought loads of wood strip from Hobbycraft which I inherited. It's decent stuff (basswood maybe?) not balsa. There doesn't seem to be such a wide range on their site nowadays though.
 
I like to use western red cedar as it greys beautifully and is amazingly rot proof due to its inbuilt anti-fungal properties (I still use a bit of cuprinol 5 star just incase).

I used to get milled scale size from a US supplier 'northwest precision lumber' on ebay.com
He ceased trading in 2017 but there is a new seller 'smokeysjoe' who is based in the same town and is producing bundles of different sized scale red cedar.

He does not show a shipping arrangement to Uk but I am sure that he could be persuaded.

Shipping costs were an issue but if you buy enough it becomes more economic than buying another type of wood from UK.

There is always the idea of clubbing together and getting a proxxon mini table saw and get some red cedar offcuts etc. (other woods are available)

A few years ago I made up three different sets of equivalent tables for the usual large-scale modelling that we do, based principally on dimensions for making stuff in wood. I offered them FOC on the forum for anybody who could use them - all I needed was their email.

Nobody has ever bothered to get back to me.

Do YOU want any of them, and if so, for what scale?
