Decided to buy some station benches rather than try to make them...but I got a cooper craft Kit No 3021 station seat listed for 16mm & G Scale should have known better, It might be good for 16mm but way over size for G scale it makes adult figures look like children so now back in it's packet. What is a good true to scale, G scale bench anybody bought any ?

Glendale Junction sell a range of benches. All are perfect for G scale.
I was thinking of suggesting that as well Casey, but when I looked at the Glendale site could only find the Pola/Piko offerings. However I know that they do others but not who by. I think that they have a tame Local Manufacturer. Perhaps Sid might have a bit of luck by calling Glendale. I think if he does he would need to mention the issues with 16mm ones being too large.

There might be 1:24 benches somewhere on the site, but I didn't find any.

Not a railway bench but I just loved the texture of this old seat that I spotted on a mountain path on Mallorca, earlier this year. Taken 7.10.2016

Thanks for reply's Looked on Glendale and found the Pola ones No 331734 not a bad price for 8 has anybody bought the Pola benches ? they would need gluing down to the platforms to stop them blowing away as I assume they are all plastic. They have the old Metal frame look like the one I bought had, which is how I remember benches on old British stations.

I like the Wooden bench above we have one in the woods near us where we walk, that somebody has carved out of an old fallen tree even has arm rests :)

The 1:32 ones an ebay are far too small - been there, tried that! You do sometimes see these in 1:25 scale and these are OK but still on the small side - OK for a seat but not long enough for a typical railway bench.

I don't know if Ozark miniatures ships to your side of the pond, but I've been pretty happy with their benches--albeit they're 1:24.

I like that they have metal ends and wood slats. If you want a longer (or shorter) bench, adjusting the width is simple: use longer slats or cut the provided ones short.

A little fuzzy due to low light (I was trying to show the platform lights) but the seated LGB figure is on an Ozark bench I shortened.

Yep, I have several and you're right about needing to anchor them in some way. My approach so far to anchoring is to place the benches in sheltered areas and put (hefty) figures on them!.
Apart from the wind, our cat and the local squirrels tend to take a short cut through the railway and if they collide with a bench it takes a tumble. In one or two cases, some re-glueing has been needed.

Yes I've used the Pola benches. Steve Warrington AKA Back 2 Bay 6 used to split them and sell them in packs of two for £1.50 a pack I think (Steve is very sadly no longer with us, a great loss).

They're spot on for G, and with figures on there's plenty of weight to keep them in place. I think I used the tiniest blob of blue tack to keep empty benches in place, or clear silicone sealant will do nicely.

To keep my figures in place, I drill a small hole up one leg and insert a piece of wire. this then goes in a similar hole in the platform or whatever. For seated people drill the hole up their backside (they don't complain much) and insert this through the seat and into the baseboard/platform or whatever. Seat and figure located securely - result.

Can anybody tell me the height a bench seat has to be for True G scale passengers to look like they are sitting on it, with their feet on the floor ? found some benches that are 20mm seat height but don't know if that's enough as I don't have any sitting figures.

It depends on the figures you are using Sid. Some are much lower than others - those chinese cheap ones especially. I find Backmann seated figures are good - 18 to 20mm

Thanks , been searching for some playmobil ones since I found how strong their lamp posts are :) just got somebody to measure some for me and they are 20mm to seat height so think I.ll buy them as they look like they with stand up to the job , I couldn't find the older park bench looking ones as they seem to be out of production now, these are a bit more modern looking but they will add something to my platforms for now and with a repaint and a bit of work I am sure they will look the job
