Stainz 20212 Sound.

I have two of these apparently identical in appearance but one has working sound whilst the other has no sound. Is there a hidden on/off switch somewhere.
All suggestions appreciated. Thank you, Derek.
 
There may be a switch on the back-head, in the cab? - If so, make sure it is fully to the right.

Also, look in the cab-roof (this is usually where the speaker is placed.

The Stainz comes in many versions, and not all have sound.
A photo of any stickers, on the underside of the motor-block, will assist us further in saying if the second loco should have sound.

Are you running DCC or analogue power?

The 20212 (or at least mine) uses a capacitor to produce sound at slow speed (low voltage) and charged up as the loco speeds up, this capacitor can take some charging is completely depleted.
 
Thank you, I regret That I cannot supply photographs however both have round Direct Decoder stickers. The silent one has a round OK sticker with the code 001114. The noisy one has a round OK sticker with the code 001113, the stickers are on opposite sides of the chassis whilst the other has them on the same side.
Neither have a switch on the back-head, both have a bulge in the cab presumably for the speaker, both have cab illumination, both smoke freely.
I have run the silent one on a rolling road for 5 minutes plus at various speeds with no noise.
 
You should be able to make out the speaker through the holes? - If there is one..

You did not say if you were running plain DC, or using a DCC system?
 
Sorry about my delay in replying, my computer shuts down all on its own!. I run on DC analogue, the appearance through the holes is identical.

Are you sure its should be seconds for any thing the fits in the stainz

DC will take longer, and need a higher speed than DCC.

If the second loco has sound, and if it is digital, then the sound could have been turned 'off' under DCC control. Or, the decoder could be programmed to have sound 'off' on analogue.

The problem being there are so many variations on the theme called 'Stainz'. - Then there are infinite possibilities for previous owners to have had the loco altered.. :think:
