Some rough & tumble tippers

Picked up a couple of Binnie tipper kits whilst making another (somewhat larger) purchase at Anything Narrow gauge on Saturday.

These are nice simple kits, at a nice cheap price (about a tenner each).

Out of the pack the part look far too neat and straight, so I set about the tubs with a hairdryer and pliers.
The bigger dents were achieved by letting the parts sit in freshly boiled water for a few minutes, then shaping over a suitable "edge":

I also attacked the chassis / tub with a Stanley knife to create some appropriate damage.
Still looked a little flat though, so I added some plastikard "patches" to simulate some in-service repairs.

A quick squirt of primer and I think they look the part:

I might experiment with adding some rust texture next....

Neat :D

I am also going to need a suitable small loco to trundle around with them.

Rather taken with this beastie:

Might make a nice Christmas break project...

Very nicely done. There were some really great examples of weathering skips on the forum previously but I think they've now been removed (pity). I've used Deluxe scenic rust but I have seen some really impressive results (on here) with little more than paint and talcum powder.

Nice job, if you want to go further, heat up a Large Sewing Needle to Red Hot (preferably whilst holding with a pair of pliers) then use it to melt some holes in the Plastic to represent Rusted Holes. A Hot Soldering Iron Body is also useful for making dents.

Very nice. I'm looking forward to the rust!

I have serious doubts that "This Beastie" will run on your tacks :D The skips look great!! Now just dirty them up a bit.

Yes, you can just imagine large boulders been dropped in without a thought for the consequences ;) Nice work.

They are nice....
what about these for motive power;

A bit like this without the rough and tumble (which I think would look even better ) ;)

IP Engineering offer several kits or small loco's that look much like the ones in your picture.
