The Assorted Porters article doesn't seem to have any pictures - so here they are again

The first two are #8 with an added bunker, side door and shotgun smokestack.

Next is #1 - as bought, just repainted

Last one is #7. This one was built from an "Otto" with extended tanks, a new cab, smokebox door and smokestack.

All pictures are on my former portable CaWarm Pink Areaer & Southern RR - now dismantled and awaiting a rebuild as a permanent layout.

my bunker attempt-with genuine cherry veneer in the cab recesses-wanted one for a "local varnish"

and one in which i changed entirely the cab molding to reflect what i understand to be the most common cab build for this type

not entirely happy with coloring or rust

a different version of the porter builders plate than above

Lovely detail shots of the cylinder tops and works plates, Steve. Are the latter Ozark castings? And is that dusty look cinder fall-out from the chimney? If so, that's surely a subtle bit of detailing.

I've just noticed what the spellchecker has done to my layout's name in the first post here. No wonder nobody else posted for a while! It should have been
Cat water (but all one word) - but if I type that in it automatically gets changed as you see above.

boy i do especially like your #3 and #5 -have a nice in house shopped look them -clever Darj look indeed

C & S:yes builders plates are Ozark;dust is just that-but ill take any compliment i can get thankyouveddymuch

Wish I could find a toytrain loco like your #15, Steve. Given an all-over roof and a water tank up front it would definitely start me thinking of a four-wheeled Dunkirk engine.

The Lehmann Porter was my first g scale loco and I'm still running it and love the wy it looks. It is now battery powered with a small 4 wheeled covered gondola like tender trailing behind holding the electronics and battery. I also have a couple of old Bachman Porters though you would recognize them as I've converted one into a 2-4-0 and the other into a 0-4-4 Forney.

Pictures, please!

Ok here are some pics of my Porters.
First is a Lehmann with tarp cover gon/tender added, cab raised.
Second is an old Bachman changed into a 2-4-0.
Third is an old Bachman changed into a Forney.

All are done to 1:20.3 scale, battery powered and I sculpted the crews.

Amazing what a difference there is to the Bachmann loco when the tanks are taken off - two very nice adaptations there; congratulations! I particularly like the tender on the 2-4-0 version.

Thanks C&S, that tender was made from 1:24 scale mainline tender(can't remember the manufacturer-ebay deal) I cut down. The coal bunker lifts off to access the RC stuff and battery pack. The cabs on the Bachmans are made from plastic, wood and matt board. Removing the side tanks left some major gaps on the boilers that had to be filled with plastic.
They were fun conversions and I always keep my eye out for old Bachman Porters.

They are little cuties:love: , I have an lgb one in bits at the mo, am undecide what to do with it - but inspiration will come

Hi,

I 'prettied' one up with a good lick of paint and some lining.

I then added a scratch built 'Ffestiniog style' tender to it

Here is a photo of it, with a scratch built flatcar and head end car behind it these are very like a cattle car, but intended (as the DSP had been caught out at the time) with not enough baggage cars, its construction is much lighter than cattle (or as its American, should that be stockcars?) cars. The head end car top is removable.

Since this photo was taken it has gained some extra red lining (made from very thin strips of the Contact adhesive plastic sheets), which was varnished down, and that has added to its already good looks. The main colour is Humbrol 3. The gold lining is below 1mm wide painted paper strips - put on with a fine line of Evo-stik for glue, and a steady hand, a new blade is needed in your modelling knife - I used a scalpel here.

This little loco was almost certainly inspired by some of Vic Smith's work, (when he posted it on myLargescale.com) and came from a G Scale Society member who amazingly had one for sale, I wish that LGB would re-introduce it! I have a photo of another version that I would like to build.

Yours Peter.

Peter,
Hmmmm, a wheeled tender. Very inspirational. I may redo the one I'm using on the Lehmann. I particularly like the lining and paint job on the loco itself.
