I have paid the subscription for ad-free but I still get some ads on the main page in the right hand side column, see below. Any ideas why? I am using Edge on Windows 10.

Still at least you know where to find a date (if you need one) and Stop a Dog Barking.

Best way to stop a dog barking is not to have one. (Retires to dog-owner proof bunker). :)

Agree with that, get a cat, less maintenance and no barking.

Nothing like thread drift by post #2 :)

It's not a big deal but I would like to know if this is a known problem, fixable, or I have to live with it.

Are the Ads. within the Forum?
OR,
Are they being served by Edge / Windows 10?

Though looking again.. It appears to be within the Forum..

Not too sure whether this will help but I use the Opera browser and I'm ad-free.

Update (Nov 20th). I've changed my browser settings and I'm now getting ads for ladies clothes, dating sites and ladies underwear!:hi: Maybe someone is trying to tell me something!

There was a discussion about ads on the site a year or two back. I have run AdBlock for years and it works very well, the bonus is it's free. In the discussion it was noted that the ads on this site help pay for the upkeep so it was suggested that for this site you should allow them. For GScaleCentral and one or two other worthy sites I have disabled them and the ones that appear are tolerated for the greater good. If you have paid for the ad free option and are still getting some then I suggest that you are morally entitled to run AdBlock on this site to rid yourself of the pesky ones that have remained. I have just tested the site for AdBlock on and off and with it on there are absolute zero ads. Switching on and off for a particular website is a simple task using a drop down menu in your browser toolbar at the top of each window.

Paul, I run my system very similarly with adblock turned off for this site.

So AdBlock fixed the problem. With AdBlock running what I see where the ads where is a list of members online. If I turn AdBlock off the advert window appears again, between the title bar and the members online window.

I got a bit confused about "main page" in your first post.

Now I see what you were talking about.

The first main page I found was by clicking the g scale central logo, or the "home" menu item on the top, it has:
Large Scale Model Garden Railways Forum

This garden railway forum is the place to be to find help on anything that relates to anything to do with G Scale Train Railways also known as Large Scale or just Garden Railways.
Use the extensive forum to help find information about large scale model railways, or as many call it G scale railway.

But your "main page" is the main FORUM page, not the man G Scale Central page, as I can accertain by the "post thread" box in the upper right.

On the far right there is a column, with several sections:
  • Members online
  • latest posts
  • latest resources
  • forum statistics
  • media statistics
  • and more...
So the members section was so small, I never saw it, just the other stuff in that column.

That area does does have ads, but I needed to turn BOTH my blockers off, I guess they BOTH detected those ads. With both off, I do indeed see ads, even though I was "told" no ads if you pay.

So, rather than complain, I turned all my blockers on. By all rights and truth in advertising, "no ads" should mean NO ADS, but I have my resources ha ha!
