My Family,Railways, Beer and the Seaside
My Dad always used to tell the tail of when he was being demobbed , he got on a train in Brindisi in Italy when it started to snow , it continued to snow all the way across Europe, across the channel to London. By now the trains were running seriously late, it took all day to get from Kings Cross to Sheffield Vic then he had to walk the last 5 miles home. The year was 1947. I think he said it was Febuary, but he isn't around to check that with anymore.
Lets hope we don't get a repeat of that!

Hillwalking, chickens and - err - garden railways.
1947 had an astonishing snowfall. It took us all day to dig through the snowdrifts at the front and back of the house. The drifts went up to the eaves. I watched the snow the night before , it came down in lumps!
