Well I finall got to run the Shay on a proper railway! Steve Jackson's stock is mostly W&L and is lead weighted to give a total of 20kg. The smooth power is just astonishing and the radio control was not really necessary. And it was a superb day for running on Ralph Pitcher's magnificent railway.

You can see the video here:
And on my website news page as usual. Cheers Chris

Thanks guys - it was fun (if a little hot) making it.

The Shay has really grown on me too Richie - and I gather from another goup that they will even handle quite tight radii (2'6" when converted to 32mm gauge). Does anyone know what they will handle on 45mm?

Also - I wonder what a British version of a Shay would look like..........?
Cheers

I run my 2 cylinder open cab shay on 2"6" radius, on 45mm track, you need a long draw bar or chain for a coupling. The accucraft shays just run so well even straight out of the box.
