Selketalbahn Style station

Hi All,
Catching up on a job I started over the winter, I've got round to posting this, As I'm modelling the Harz system (leaning towards the Selke valley) I have seen a few fine examples on here including Jon D's Alexisbad, now sure of my own skills yet in this scale and wanting a medium sized station I firstly thought of modelling Strassberg (I'll still will use the track plan) but unsure how about going about scratch building the building!! Anyway I saw and got the pola Schonweiler on that well known web site that tempts us all! (from Mr Two Jags I think) At first I was going to adapt it in to Strassburg, but although the footprint was right, it didn't work out with the roof, Then looking at Jons post again, I looked at Alexisbad and saw I could alter the roof and make a smaller version.

Here's the starting point20160824_170200.jpg

A few mock ups in cardboard to see if it worked, which it did, so using that well known favourite the coffee stirrer (I found virgin trains ones the best quality!) for the new gable ends and roof trusses with a few bits of balsa wood etc

I was unsure how to do the roof as the bits in the kit wouldn't quite fit, then I found a sign that was like the ones they use for house for sale signs, which is just like corrugated cardboard, only in plastic. cuts easy with a knife, just unsure of how it would stand up to the weather long term, however, it's free and light.

I then found some plasticard style dolls house roofing sheets 1;24 scale which when painted looks the job.

I've also used the sign to make up floors and internal walls. So really just needs a bit of detailing clocks, posters chimney pots etc.
Cheers Pete

Excellent work! Very much looks the part..... though given the state that Alexisbad station was in when we visited earlier this year, I think it may need a lot of weathering and "distressing"..... ;)

Jon.

Pete,
What a super adaption, wish I had thought about this before my Scratch Lookalike effort. But as you may have seen I have used Pola Kit for my Magdesprung, sadly at my Strassberg I do not have space for much of a Building so have used the original kit at that location. All credit for the out of the box thinking here, very inspirational.

Thank you for all your kind comments,
My wife thinks I've lost it! "what are you doing with a dolls house at your age?"(or any age for that matter!) Still, some embossed plasticard brick sheets to knock up a goods shed which will be the next building job. actually just had a thought, the window boxes in the kit could be turned on their side to make the boxes over the roller shutters on the upstairs windows.

After a long break (to many night shifts :( ) it's back to a few projects, I decided that I needed roller shutters as per Alezisbad, so after finding some suitable plasticard and using the window boxes that came with the kit, I came up with this

Hopefully I'll get the gutters and down pipes on soon, then out with the paint brush.
