Scratchbuilt Hand Crane

A winter project I have been working on is a hand operated crane mounted on a 4-wheel chassis.

I photographed this example, produced in Sowerby Bridge, outside the Argentine "Railway Museum" (basically small exhibits only) by Retiro station in Buenos Aires back in 2009...

One HGLW chassis and various oddments of plasticard/balsa wood/old watch innards/wire/bits of 1/72 WW2 German half-track later and I ended up with this....

Another HGLW chassis was used to provide a runner wagon to go with it.........

The match truck still needs a bit more work, but it gives "something different" to add to the growing fleet of rolling stock for a limited expenditure (under £30 for the pair)

Great to see more of your excellent work Steve....

Nice to see you raising your game, it gives us all a lift.

Lovely looking model. A great addition to your fleet. I used a Hartland chassis for my crane as well...

They aren't actually Hartland chassis, as they seem to have vanished off the face of the earth of late and I haven't seen any in the UK or in the US on my travels for several years. They are actually Houston Gate Loco Works ones which are very useful for such scratchbuilding jobs and are cheap as well! (I think the last ones were £12.75 each)

I've put some of my Hartland wagon bodies on HGLW chassis so I could reuse the Hartland chassis parts for other things, such as when constructing those NSW style coal hoppers I did a thread about on here during 2015.

Very nice..

That 'match' truck must be very small.. Judging by the size of the matches!

I do like cranes ....... I have now got four scratch built jobbies with match trucks and will probably build, buy or kitbash others.....one is never enough.......... same goes for a good beer..... Almost addictive......
