Sacre Bleu!!!! what has he done to the cable car???

tramcar trev

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
Well after closer examination I decided that the cable car was not really museum quality as per the marketing hype so I converted it to be a ?California style? single ended car for my City Circle service. It will be the most modern car in my small fleet, I fitted airbrakes???..

The work involved removing and replacing part of the hump under the existing seating, a new wooden longitudinal seat had to be custom made to fit, a simulated T&G dash panel also had to be made to cover the ?Museum? quality exposed cabling for the lights and some wiring had to be rerouted under the car. The existing incandescent lighting will stay until a globe burns out then LEDs will be the replacement.

A trolley pole had to be fitted with a switch to enable either 2 rail or overhead power supply. Some cosmetic changes to the advertising was considered appropriate so Arnotts Biscuits and a travel poster for the Blue Mountains get a gurnsy while at the rear movie posters show intending patrons what?s on at the Odeon, the town cinema on this cars endless route?. The 2 large side boards have yet to be sorted, I?m trying to find a ?Seven Miles From Sydney & a Thousand Miles From Care? poster extolling the virtues of traveling to Manly by ?fast modern steamer? ( go on Ross try finding one of these on Google!!!!) A cleated wooden floor was laid over the plain black plastic (even Bachmann have better detail that these ?Museum? quality jobs?.). The side destination boards were resigned with DIY decals and in the process of doing that I discovered that the lettering can be removed by judiciously rubbing with a cotton bud dipped in wax and grease remover?

Trolley hooks and a life guard have yet to be fitted; the supplied one is very very unreal?.

I?ll now try sourcing some seated and standing passengers and a Bachmann Motorman and Conductor (Yes Ross go for it, I can?t find any but I know they are about) would complete the picture?.
Quite a fun project?.

A goodly customisation Trev.
Trams do have a certain inescapable attraction.
I makes me wonder why I got rid of my Bachmann trams some time back.

Would this be suitable, Trev? ;)

Trev, a really nice conversion - and a big improvement on the original. Ade has beaten me to it with a copy of the poster (although there is an earlier more elongated version that I'll still try to track). Josef Lebovic Galleries in Sydney have a thumbnail in their catalogue #87 from 2000 (see link below), but they don't have a larger version linked. They do claim they will supply one on request.

The Manly poster is image #22. Lebovic deals in vintage posters, photos, ephemera and art. There are quite a lot of old Australian travel posters that you might be able to use. Thought you might find this waste of a good sheep paddock useful. Manuka and Kingston are villages and Griffith fans out in the distance!

yes at $1200 I wont be rushing to buy it and it is exactly what I want, that's the format that was as you may recall in the internal advertising holders along the roofs in the Sydney trams....
I remember Canberra like that too. When I came here briefly in 1954 the Kingston shops were a big deal.... I was but a small child. Even since I took up residence in 1972 the changes have been incredible, It used to be a day trip to Pine island and you had to put your name in a register in Civic to go so far out into the wilds............Now Pine island is the commercial centre for all manner of controlled substances.....
