Rockery Ridge On The Move

Have had trouble lately with my 1:20.3 locos and stock clearing a Malus tree next to the staion on the passing loop which has now grown quicker than i thought so my plan was to move the passing loop out on to the lawn which would also take out a 'S' bend at the end of the loop which my K-27's don't like . But this didn't get pass planning (wifey) but Sara did come up trumps with a new plan take out the loop and move it into the wide shrub border down the line as she said she has never liked seeing the station where it is . So i made a start this week by taking out the loop and the 'S' bend repacing it with a long straight and a sweeping curve have also cleared the shrub border and marked out the line and new location for Rockery Ridge Station .

oo good so far..everyone is doin like tht on yr layout!..im the same but different style........im avin a fiddle yard.....

Cheers Steven & Colin , the new loop will now give me room to house a 20ft long train double that of the old loop and the new line is a lot straighter so should be easier for live steam running

hi agian....so wot types of ballast do u use for yr tracks?

Hi Steven
The ballast i think is grey granite that i got from work that we use on pathways , take out any large stones and then mixed with rapid cement holds the track and ballast all in place so not to go on the lawn but as the new loop line runs through the middle of the shrub border the ballast will be loose .

Very nice looks like some hard work there you deserve a good feed and a beer! Will look more real too i reckon.

Cheers Ian has been alot more work than i first planned was only looking at replacing the points from R3 to R5 but luckily with the new line i can stick with the R3's  I look at these changes and wonder why i didn't do this first time round

Thats looking well smart Richie, like the new sweeping curve

You do realise that a passing loop at one side auto matically means a passing loop on the other side, when the two loops are the correct length then you will have double track by default,
I am all in favour of land aquisition,

Funny you should say that Pete Sara has talked about a inner line making double track round the garden but it would mean using R2 curves which are a bit tight for most of my stock .

A good move, well done to Sara for her idea:)

Many thanks John, Sara does come up with some very good ideas some of them i have thought about in the past but just wouldn't ask for planning better to have the idea from her

Some pic's of how it looked before

Nice improvment Richie. Seems everyone is taking advantage of this early spring weather. We have to be about a month ahead of schedule with plants. Usually my ground is still frozen.

Cheers Shawn . Hope to get some more work done this weekend and get the plants back in the ground as alot of the buds are just starting to break been nice and sunny all week not much sign of rain at the moment

Had a chance this week to get all the brick work cermented in place ready for the track :bigsmile:which i ordered last weekend but has not arrived yet :impatient: Once the track does arrive i can then get on with the planting and sort out the wires for the station and signals .

If you insert 2 or 3 lightly eased R2s into a R3 half circle you can get away with double tracking..... the space between the tracks is........ not as wide and not as uniform but it works....as long as you watch out for 2 x Heavyweight coaches trying to pass at the same time :rolf: but at least the majority of stock will run on the inner radius..ive done this on this loop and when ballested doesnt look out of place you can also be a little flexable on the outer loop but i didnt have the room here....... There are 3 x R2s in the inner loop the rest are R3s but the R2s have been slightly Belly eased
