REWIRING THOMAS

Yes, most Bachmann locos have a very low current draw, so operate well at low controller speed settings.

On the plus side, that's what makes them so good to convert to battery power ;D ;D ;D

So, they are not polarity sensitive?.. or anything like that?

Just unsoldering the feed wires, and swapping them over, would fix things OK?
Not polarity sensitive at all.. In fact just a coil of wire, possibly with a ferrite (or iron) core.

I just cut the wires and used a connector block to reconnect for 'reversed' polarity.

:o As we speak, little Thomas is on the cart, ready to be wheeled into surgery (off to club, tonight's project).

:) The surgery on Thomas was successful, and is now a well behaved engine. The Fat Controller is very pleased.

:) In the end, after actually putting on my glasses, I could see that the simple solution of unsoldering and swapping the wires over would actually work. Nothing else disconnected from the PC board, so I must have done something right.

Anyhow, a tip for TtTE owners/fans... when taking the body off, first remove the face. The mechanism that rolls the eyes will not line up when you try to reassemble the body otherwise. A cockeyed Thomas just don't look right, somehow.

For other TtTE owners dismantling Thomas, there is no need to remove the front of the loco.
If you remove the rear 6 x screws the main body will lift off, a stiff fit but it will come off, and leave the boiler front and face in situ.
If you need to remove the whole body, then yes remove the face. I tape the eyes in place so they will slot back relatively easily.
