I'm not sure if this is the right section for this announcement - mods please move if not.

You may have noticed that David at Deltang is now no longer selling 'finished' transmitters - he's just selling the kit versions. After some discussion with him, I've now set up my own little company, marketing Deltang gear and my own slightly enhanced versions.

My website is now 'live' - http://rctrains.co.uk At the moment, I'm focusing on the Tx22, but once established, I'm intending to make other transmitters based on David's originals.

I'd be interested in feedback anyone might have about the venture, the website and any suggestions for extending the range.

Good luck with your venture Rik. As I am doing odd Battery Converts, when I have used the two systems that I have in stock (not Deltang) will certainly be looking at your Kit. Specially when Sound comes on stream.

Can I make a request re Sound, properly Sampled rather than Electronically created is what floats my Boat.

Good luck!!

Looks great so far with plenty of info. Some good options to have for someone like me who can use a screwdriver but would not be sure which end of a soldering iron to use! ;-)

I am sure to order from you in the future.

Having already got some Deltang gear I'm sure that's a good choice and I'll keep an eye on it as I'll soon be bullding some 7/8ths stuff and want to use it again. Can I make a request to help get people into it. Take some typical size locos and offer complete deals or at least a shopping list that will fit so people have some idea of what to put together. It was a struggle to sort out what I needed in the smaller scales so I think it'll help them a do your sales ;)

Thanks for the feedback, chaps. It's taken me most of the Christmas hols and before to get everything set up so its encouraging to hear that it's of interest to others.

Thanks for the suggestion, Paul. I might put a fairly basic 'getting started' post up on my blog and then link through to it.

BTW - I created the website using a marvellous freebie Open Source web authoring package called Open Element. I tried a paid-for package which was slightly more sophisticated but in the end it didn't really do anything more than Open Element could achieve. I found it fairly intuitive with mostly drag and drop 'elements' to create the pages and uploading to the web was a doddle.

I'm using PayPal buttons and their shopping cart. They're a bit limited in what they can achieve - but (apart from the usual PayPal fees) it is a free service.

I think it looks reasonably professional ...... given its origins. It seems to work OK on my tablet - but I would be interested in how it appears on mobile phones. My phone is about ten years old and doesn't do web stuff (or much else come to that - apart from making and receiving calls and texts - it's definitely not 'smart').

Cracking idea, hopefully it will encourage more people to venture into the world of battery power.

I have and don't regret it at all, as it means that you can get trains running quicker (due to no track cleaning) and they run better as you don't need electrical continuity.

Would it be worth adding a few on off switches to your items so that you will have nearly everything needed (except batteries ) for sale

Great idea, Dan. I have a stock of two-way switches which I bought for the Tx reversing switch which I could sell separately.

Very good idea. I have just started in RC (Playmobil) and was looking at Deltang to try and make some kind of radio controlled point motors which I know can be done looking at the website. I can do "large scale" soldering but not very good at building kits, certainly not SMT, so ready made stuff would be great. Your blog has always been a good read for me, so keep up the good work is what I say.

Looks fine on my iPhone. Does not appear to have a mobile specific layout but personally I do not like these and would prefer to zoom and scroll the full site.

I design web based apps for a living and looks more professional than many sites. Just keep it simple and clean and resist the temptation to add too many bells and whistles (except in the sound card section ;-) )

My only negative comment is text on top of a picture (home page) is a bad idea as some people will find this tricky to read.

Not looked at the offerings (yet)..
But, PLEASE can we have 'silk-screened' labels on them? - Imitation being the greatest form of flattery, look at Tony Walsham's offerings.

Thanks for that feedback, Robert.
I see what you mean about the background image. I did try it without initially but the page looked a bit empty. I'll try darkening the colour of the text, it's the default mid grey of the template.

Hi Phil
I'm keeping the Classic Deltang tx as is, but I've used a printed overlay for my version

Well done, sir. I have international high-level qualifications in frying electronic components and the fully wired version of the Rx-65b will be on my Spring shopping list!

Thanks folks. I'm overwhelmed by the goodwill being expressed. I must admit to being both excited and apprehensive. Fortunately, Mrs Rik is very supportive - even when the credit card bill arrived and she saw the extent of the outlay so far  :sweating:
