RARE !!!!!

It never ceases to astound me. Someone builds a one of a kind model, then thinks it is worth big bucks or pounds. I guess they figure if someone goes for it, they've won.

I must say the modeler did a very nice job on this one. Would I fork out over a thousand dollars for it, no way. The seller claims these models were built for LGB. I'm not sure about that. They also state that it is, "an extreme rare car to find with this many details". Well I guess so if only one was made and there are seven billion people on the planet. If only one tenth of one percent were looking for a car like this it would be hard to find.

H'mm - not entirely accurate modelling - plastic handled implements, corrugated looks way out of scale. But a nice model I suppose - $150'ish maybe. Also notice three standard wheelsets and one BB type.

Handcrafted 'FOR' LGB? using kadees and non lgb figures, hmmm, I think that's some creative imagination ;)
Like you say for a logging railroad it could be a nice wagon but at a tenth of the asking price. I'd guess it's someone's home build rather than the commercial enterprise claimed.

Hm someone certainly appears to have an inflated ego of their Modelling abilities. Or perhaps thay are just an Ebay Chancer that is hoping someone as dumb and rich as the President Elect may bid for it.

If you scroll down and read the description it is a bespoke bash by a respectable American bashing firm, not thrown together by the seller :nerd:
Personally I think they have acheived the ultimate in ugly and it looks like poo. Still, I wouldn't swap a roll of toilet paper for it :tmi:

and a one off item is unique - not rare.

Well I see the listing has ended some has got a "bargain" o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

well.......

Being a simpleton when it comes to ebay and how sellers think, (I only BUY stuff), I don't know if ebay sellers are looking for an ignorant buyer, or over loving wife.....or ???

In perusing the sellers other items, some are reasonably priced, others, imho, are not. He has many scales of trains and some non-train items. He apparently has some idea of the market, or, perhaps, the ebay market.

I think, some sellers, do not want to under price, others simply do not know what to do, and like initial real estate listings by those ignorant of the market, price it and then slowly drop the price until it moves. I think too, to some, a high price might signal exclusivity or desirability, or even ....scarcity and collectability, regardless of reality. And, to some, those who simply don't know how to modify, or have the time, it might be the only avenue of such an item.

Like everyone else so far, the model does not appeal to me in any way, at any price, mostly because it is too loose, and really doesn't look like it belongs with other LGB products. It might look great on some rustic, fantasized mining or logging layout, sort of a humorous folksy rendition of something.

But speaking of fantasized, the seller also lists an LGB blue Baltimore and Ohio mogul for ......$1175.00! On the one hand probably difficult to find , in an hurry at least, and on the other, it seems possibly THE least desirable of all the LGB moguls. Not to mention finding matching coaches, no less cars.

Y'know those things that control the flow of water into tanks.....

I think they're called BALLCOCKS :nod::nod::nod::nod::nod:

As soon as you see the word 'rare' in any evilbay listing, y'know something's up :cool::cool::cool::cool:

The only thing that's any good when it says 'rare' is the steak at the Buenos Aires Steak House >:)>:)>:)

(though, admittedly, this example was "medium-well" rather than rare.....!!)

Think that little lot (+ the large bowl of chips off camera) wine and a dessert came to about £9 at the time.

Wot? No peas and mushrooms!

The "greens" did exist, its just they were served on a seperate plate to the steak !
It was (and presumably still is) a superb place to eat, sufficiently far out of the City centre that it was mainly used by the locals and relatively "tourist free" - you had to do your research beforehand to be aware its existence, and get there early to avoid having to queue....

Not the first time I have seen nice models for ludicrous prices. Not the first time I have seen lousy models for ludicrous prices. The one thing that always runs thru my mind is...What are these guys smoking?
