Anybody with a Triplex I would appreciate if they could contact me here.
I have a couple of queries.
Thanks Trevor

bearing in mind taht the 1:1 version weren't that special - lack of steam I think.

the model looks phenominal, and probably the best place to see one working  :applause:

Nice loco.

Think the Erie could do 10mph and the Virginian 5mph.......believe they were used for pushing on grades.

That is an impressive loco Trevor. Of course us 'analogue' people would no doubt not have the whistle to worry about !

I was actually being a bit sarcastic there Tac. A friend was commenting about the same trend in HO. Instead of small steam that would be practical on most home layouts (light Mikes, Consolidations, etc) the US outline steam makers are going bigger and bigger, with owners still putting them on 18" and 22" radius layouts.

Bigger sells better is the only conclusion we could come to? The "ahh" or "look at me on the shelf" factor at play.

According to Kalmbach's guide to North American steam locomotives, the Erie Triplexes were used as pushers 1914-1927, after which they were stored prior to scrapping. One of their defects is stated to be having too much power for the couplers and frames of 1914-era freight stock.

From the same source, the Virginian loco allegedly never made a successful trip in service, due to both lack of steam and indequate clearance for exhaust steam and smoke in tunnels. It was on the RR's books 1917-1920 and then returned to Baldwin to be converted into a 2-8-8-0, with the tender running gear used to make a 2-8-2. The two resultant locos lasted until 1953.

The book referenced is ISBN 0-89024-206-2 published 1983 and now out of print.

I drooled over the one in GRS's display cabinet a few months ago!

THATS THE VERY ONE Trevor
I still need to speak to someone about the Quillible whistle however.
Please step forward all you owners or am I on a desert island here??

Look's like the island's deserted :o

But it's still a loverly model.

I was getting a bit worried when Gareth (3 Valve) was drooling over a triplex - it doesn't just mean three valves y'know :clown:

Great looking loco with lovely sound like the smoke unit on the tender

It's sweet. I have to say I think big models are cool. Budget and size of my track not for me but I love it.......

interesting question do these "big" models pull as well as they look. also don't you need a 100 box cars to make it look right?

Just as a matter of interest, if anyone is considering running a Triplex then you will need to use the latest DCS softwware version 4.10 to activate the SPW softkey and select FSW to play the quillible whistle and get smoke to come out of the whistle.

Of course the engine will run on analog and also the earlier hand held digital mode but you will be limited with the sound range and other features which are now available.

Would be pleased to assist anyone with the various options available with your MTS Digital Command System

As stated in the Railking Literature; ; Simply the best way to run a Railroad!

I don't think even the Stainzmaster would put the mighty Rugens up against a Triplex for pulling power

:applause: :applause: :applause:

He'd use three Stainzes..... ;)

Or more!!

The Steaming Whistle is now 'up and running' and can be seen working on this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHSf7HgBInk

You will need to use the DCS systems with 4.10 software to activate.
Two new soft keys appear as soon as you have the link.
Press SPW for the Quillible whistle and then FSW to make it steam (smoke)

Good running. These are nice engines.

PS Please send some of those 0-4-0s on to me The Triplex has a large firebox!

Very impressed,Trevor, and really pleased you've got everything working. You're obviously having a quilling good time!

John.
