Raglan Hall No11 emerges from paint shop

Too much of a good thing is nearly enough.

This example of Bachmann's 4-6-0 is a radio controlled battery version, and was bought on a whim from Elmswells G Scale Society event some time ago. Looking like toy and reluctant to work ( and the controller was also in pieces ) saw it relegated to the spares bin. However after over a year and still as intact as the day it arrived, I decided to have a proper look at it.

After a short time cleaning terminals, plus the expense of batteries, it ran. The radio control was re-assembled and glued together. So our new No11 went in for a complete repaint into fleet colours and now looks totally different and ready for use.
The cream round the front of the cab was an experiment, and will be a one-off. All our other locos only have cream on the side of the cab.

Wow Syd, that's a different looking loco altogether!

Well done mate....

No 11 has plastic wheels without traction tyres, but will happily haul three coaches although I doubt if it will enjoy a gradient.
Another picture, this time with it's track powered sister No.12, which was repainted last year and has seen quite a bit of use. The motor is rough but it keeps going!
Rain is still preventing me going outside, hence the shots indoors.
No 11 still needs a few touch-ups, the camara always shows bits up I have missed.

My doctor says I have a malformed Public Duty Gland, and I am excused from going out in the rain.

Hi Lordraglan 274,

I think No 11 would look even better with this set of valve gear.

Bruce.

I would have probably fitted the beter valve gear before I started Bruce, but now the job is done I will leave it as it is.
Thanks for the kind comments Gizzy, it does look like another loco.......but I am not convinced the cream front suits it. No12 looks far more refined, so maybe it will have to go. I will leave it another 24 hours before making a decision.

Great job, looks excellent! I bought one of those locos myself but the radio control system left a lot to be desired. I later acquired a Christmas Anniversary Big Hauler which had some bodywork damage so I took the body from the radio control version and fitted it to the Anniversary chassis, a simple straight swap. Now looks and runs great complete with metal wheels, side rods and the latest drive system. Even the green wheels matched the green body.

And here's another one I did, same principle of using a cheap Christmas Anniversary chassis and combining it with some bodywork off an older loco. I love how easy it is to swap things around on these Big Haulers.

Great work Syd..I`m a big fan of these Big Haulers.I`m finding that they actually can pull a lot of stock, even up gradients.Suppose it depends on how old your particular loco is,what condition the motor is in etc...Paint jobs are fantastic !!

Cheers
