This morning GSC demanded I "enable push notifications". I told it to come back later - later turned out to be 10 seconds later. I told it to get lost, so it came back 10 seconds later. I said OK and it said "thank you for enabling push notifications" and then, 10 seconds (or so) later, up pops the request again.

What's the story???

I had noticed the "enable push notifications" message in the past few days and just closed the box. Not seen anything of it recently but have noticed the ads.

I assume you know you can disable push notifications in your preferences?

yes, I do, although did you read the people who posted that they were having trouble?

I'm not just thinking of myself.... I have it under control, although personally I don't like sites that constantly pummel me with new advertising stuff and other stuff I don't want... not pointing at GSC specifically with this comment.

And my sidebar is still gone! ;)

Yes, but each time I go to a 'new' page, Like New Posts, or to a thread, the bl**dy thing spawns again..

I HAVE TO KILL IT EACH TIME I GO TO A THREAD, OR CALL THE LIST OF NEW POSTS UP.

It is persistent, in some way??
I also have to go back to the top of said thread-page, or whatever to get to said 'three dots'.

Not getting at you personally Paul.. Probably partly my own fault for running on an ancient W7 laptop?
This morning, it took two minutes to post to a thread, from hitting the Post reply button to getting the refreshed thread with my posting in.. - This was an exception, but without the sidebar, the Forum is decidely more responsive.

A piece of elsatoplast down the right hand side of the screen? :p:p

That side bar is very intrusive and annoying. And as Philip says, it keep on coming back. Can it be turned off permanently?
The ads drive me nuts too. Fair enough, you need advertisers to fund your site, but at least they should be relevant to the sites content. (How many bra and dating site adverts does one man need to see?)
Please try and do something about it.
Thanks.

Of course, there is an option to opt out of ads............

And to be honest, I don’t find the side bar distracting at all. But then I am a funny bu***r!

Click on your avatar (in your case P in blue circle) in the header bar top right and you will see Preferences listed in left hand column of options.

Doesn't normally get to me..
But this has hit a nerve, for some reason??

This, and a couple of other 'interface/usage' niggles..
Might be getting close to 'Push', as in 'off'.. :(

Thanks, Dave, I disabled Push notifications and to be on the safe side I unticked every Push notification box except for the conversaion box one.

To help pay for the site..

Have you noticed the new up/down arrow 'voting system', by persons Avatars, in their posts?
Not in all threads!!

Not until you mentioned them. On another site I am a member of there was a similar idea but it was quickly abandoned after some members used it as a means of settling personal scores.

So what are these for then? Is it some kind af rating system? What happens if someone receives a certain number of down arrow? Are they then subject to some kind of sanction, downgraded in some manner or thrown to the lions?
