Pulsed Smoke.

So I bought a Massoth smoke unit and hooking up to my Massoth computer module checked the CVs against the manual. Changed CV 1 to my loco number and hooked it up to the XLS decoder being, as I hoped, diligent to ensure wires went to where they were supposed to go: and it worked! until comming to a halt, on restarting a monumental noise from the smoke unit that as soon as it was going abated to a more acceptable level, but now it wont work. I have removed it from the sound card and hooked it to the computer and nada, I get reading and writing errors. I get no response if I try using my navigator, has any one got a suggestion that I might try. The usual advice is leave well alone and get someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you. The problem is is that I like trying to do it myself, it's just the loads of dosh I loose when it all goes tits up.

I assume this is a DCC pulsed smoke generator.
I have one but it is some time since I installed it.

The initial noise might be the unit starting in full exhaust mode then reverting to pulse mode. How was it connected to the XLS? Just track power or did you try and use the pulse generator output as well (A3) and/or SUSI load control?

Regarding being unable to read CVs the manual says "To program the smoke generator it needs to be connected to the motor block (track)" by which I think it means it needs a load to read CVs. How are you trying to program it?

Correct. A3 +GND I did once try using the Navigator via motor block, this is probably where I was going wrong. Will be back to it manana.
