Project Dogbox Railbus Revamp

For the benefit of the non-Facebookers I thought I`d better let you see what I`ve been up to recently.

A few years back I cobbled together a "Dogbox" from an IP coach and Hartland woody parts.

I was never completely satisfied with it in it`s original form, so during the past couple of weeks I thought I`d give it a makeover.

First here`s a few pics of it in original form, then in it`s MkII incarnation as (despite numerous successful test), after final assembly the MkI wouldn`t negotiate R1`s too well.

Whilst I liked the MKII look better, it never realy looked like a coherent or finished article (probably because it wasn`t) and the model got confined to the loft for a few years.

Having re-discovered it quite by accident whilst looking for other railway items I decided to see what could be done to improve matters.  Here is the revamped version.

First up - a strip down and repaint.

Then finally one job I could never get my head around until a recent Facebook consultation with Mel,  Windscreen wipers.

There`s a few more tiny bits n bobs to do, but overall I`m happy with this little creation now.  Gonna give it some sort of dedicated trailing vehicle too, (maybe an open coach or trailing van), but for now it`ll ding dang do.

Looks really smart, the lighting looks especially impressive. Now then, windscreen wipers ...... hmm .... that's an idea.....

Nice looking model. Well done.

Well although it looks better and the lighting works beautifully, I took it out for a test run last night and it was disastrous, stuttering, stopping jerky running. All down to poor pickup at the front wheels that I've been trying to resolve for ages.

Given up on trying to track power it now. Going back to my original power source which was basically a battery pack and DPDT switch, which worked brilliantly when I first built it. Hopefully be able to wire up tonight and test tomorrow. Eventually will R/C it, but manual running off batteries will do for now.
