Problem with Piko loco

I have a Piko 0-6-0 like this one.

Occasional use over the years with no problems. Been in storage for a year and so I gave it a run on a test oval in my train shed. Ran well for a couple of minutes and then over about ten seconds it gradually slowed to a stop. No jerks just gently stopped. Power off and after a few seconds I tried it again and off it went for about 20 seconds when it again slowed to a stop. Repeated this several times and found the longer I stopped the power the longer it ran before stopping again.

Any thoughts?

have you tried a different controller?

As others have said, some greases get thicker when they get warmer which would fit your pattern or internal corrosion in the motor might be the case if it was stored in the garage. if it could be moisture then put next to a radiator to drive off moisture.
