Pot boiler paint

Hi all

I have a ip engineering Jane boiler that I need to paint which will be externally gas fired. Now, searching on here I see that people recommend stove/BBQ paint for smoke boxes. Should I use this? It's going to be black as is the rest of the locomotive.

Stove paint would be my choice. Engine enamel may be ok too, just depends on if the surface will be exposed to actual flame...

Halfords do various engine colours, for painting the cylinder block on cars etc, the paint does withstand very high temperatures. Alyn

It the past I've tried several and found that the black paint sold for air cooled motorcycle engines is more heat resistant that the type sold for cars. It also has a satin finish rather than the high gloss of the car engine paint.

Used this on my Jane:-

The tin is at least 10 years old.
Although it's good for hot surfaces, you need to remember Jane's boiler has direct flames around it.
Still seems OK though.

That's the stuff I used. It cures with heat and gets smoother and harder.
