Point lurgy not confined to Piko

Point lurgy. Just noticed this on one of my R1 points. Near to the frog on the curved rail. About an inch of worn rail. Have you see this on your railway or ist it only my bad track laying. Hope you can see the damage in the photo. By the way the point is 7 years old . How many trains have gone through here then?

Do you think its down to the check rail not doing its job
 
Could be. Check the gauge as well at that point. The LGB R3 points are well known for being wide of gauge at that point. Aftermarket mods are available for the R3 point, mainly a brass shim that goes inside the check rail, as the check rail itself is too near the centreline!
 
I use a piece of brass strip (1mm x 5mm ish) folded over the check rail - the main reason for the choice of material is it was what I had in stock!

and on a couple of older points where the checkrail was shorted I just made the brass a little longer.

Probably you could use all sorts of different things....
