Plenty of action on this guy's railway

This is the kind of railway action that intrigues me. I have always been a fan of Lionel operating accessories, and when I was into Lionel trains I had an extensive layout with plenty of their operating items. I've built a few operating accessories for my garden railway. However, i came across this video on Youtube. This guy has a nice continuous operation. I can't say much about his detailing or landscaping, but he has all of the components of a railway that make it fun y to operate.

I wonder is the half track that moves the gravel around guided by the Faller system? I didn't see a magnet running along the ground...

I had seen this video before but I viewed it again. ;D

Whilst I ate my daily porridge, I had a glance at the telly. The Beeb's "Click" programme came up (short version) and they were in Australia at a Rio Tinto mine. Guess what? All the gigantic dumper trucks were remotely controlled. Full version is on BBC 2 Mon morning. Life imitating art - and supposedly a lot safer than being driven by a human!

Wonderful stuff. The half track truck in particular is brilliant. I want one! Given that he appears as "Custom Models" it has to be scratchbuilt. :-[

Bashed from a Tamiya 1:16, apparently. According to his own comment all the train stuff is bashed/scratch-built in that scale, so none of it is G or 1 scale.

He sells some stuff that some scratch builders may find interesting: http://www.customrcmodels.com/

Certainly cheaper to remotely control the trucks. You know what "plant operators" at these remote mines are paid? Circa AU$150k, 12 hour shifts, 14 days on, 7 off and flown home...
And with one of Tramcar Trevs remote controls Less than AU$100 for the conversion :o :o ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Interestingly, one of the big Northern Mines has realised it doesn't even need to send the men there, FIFO, and have located their 9 control rooms to one big'un, just outside Perth - must save a fortune!
