Please remove the up/down arrow feature

idlemarvel

Neither idle nor a marvel
Country flag
As mentioned in another thread, this is a request for admins to please remove this feature.
My reasons
1 - it is not clear what they mean- when I get -1 does it mean someone does not like what I said, the way that I said it, the fact that I said it, or just me in general?
2 - We already have icons to express approval, agreement, etc so this is redundant
3 - You know who added the icons, but these "votes" are anonymous - IMO one of the worst things about social media
EDIT: I have since found out that if you click on the total vote number it displays the names of the voters.
4 - It wastes screen space
Thanks, Dave

I agree with Dave. (I did click on the like omojii to add my like to those of mile and David1226, but it wouldn't do it.)

interestingly, the 'feature' is no longer appearing by 'Idle marvel's avatar..
? Is that because I have already 'read' that one (before coming back as 'Playmofire' had added a post) ?
OR
? Has the feature been removed from Idlemarvel's posts, period ?

it's for up voting the corerect answers thus it shouldn't appear next to the original poster as he or she is unlikely to be ansrewing there own question.

Yes, that makes sense..
Though sometimes, the only sensible answer is the one you give yourself. ;)

I see (as someone else has pointed out) the range of "reaction" icons has been reduced to a handful not including agree, informative, etc.

I don't think I'm alone in finding all these changes (red question mark, voting, persistent sidebar) a bit confusing.

As my Irish groundworker friends used to advise me very sagely, if things don't alter they'll stay as they are :smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke:

There seems to be a lot of changes, I like the forum which in real terms is the user community, the GUI is reasonable, but do we want or need ALL the bells and whistles, some are okay, and some can become a pain

Surely the highest rated answer should migrate to the top of the page and the lowest at the bottom? Otherwise you need to scroll down through wrong answers to get to the right one! Just wondering.

Being a bear of little brain, it's taken me a while to figure out that the purpose of these up/down arrows (I think) is to rank each answer/response to a question type thread, rather than rating the content or author. You can then sort by votes to see the "best" (most voted for) answer, although it is not always the case that the most popular answer is the best. I can see this might have some use, but only if everyone knows that's what they're for!

On the plus side it looks like the full set of reaction icons has been restored. Thank you for that admin.

Moving posts make following a long thread difficult and impossible to moderate!
