Playmobil 5258 Shunter re-paint

At the CFR we have 6 of these locos between us, I decided to give mine a re-paint.

First difficulty was to remove the body, I doubt that I will ever try to remove it again as it is VERY tricky to do. As the loco is designed for kids its not designed to be taken apart.
Then I re-sprayed in red, put the body back on, added some vinyl stickers, then touched some of the paintwork up.

Some small details have been added such as diesel tank caps and mesh for the steps and walkways.
And there you go.

That's very nice indeed!

What are the particularly tricky bits about getting the body off? Hidden screws, stiff clips, or what?

Jon.

Thanks Jon,

Its all clipped on, but they are so stiff and I ended up cutting some off. When I was putting it back on the clip was in the middle of the slot but still wouldn't clip down. I know Tony aka the woolman has also tried but he gave up in the end.

A very smart livery.

Playmobil is hard to get apart largely because of the number of clips which have to be pushed one way or another at the same time. I've used disassembled wooden washing pegs with some models as wedges but the thin end of the peg has to be thin; the latest wooden pegs my wife has bought are too thick to work.

When I repainted mine I cheated, I just masked off the Chassis it made it a lot quicker. They are a versatile loco, and a good radio control system too.
I'd buy another.

Yes Scott, that was the plan, I looked in the "train pantry" to see how it could fit in, and saw my 218. Excellent loco, RC is very good, we had 6 running off one handset at the CFR a few weeks ago.
