Platform width

Is there a standard platform width for g scale? I have looked at some examples and it seems to me 6.7 inches or 17 cm. Also what is the recommended gap between the platform and track?

How long is a piece of string? In fact the measure should be that of the largest of the ‘kinetic envelope’ of the trains you are running. Also platform height will be an issue as well in this respect. I do not have platforms as such, modeling the Harz in circa 1981 such boarding points were little higher than that of rough cinders to the height of the rails meaning no problems with overhang. More recently higher platforms have been built but not much higher than the first step which would give you the minimum gap and height, a bit more needs to be allowed if your platform is curved.
Below a couple of examples from former East Germany.

What ever fits, as big as you like, and as small as fits, unless you are modelling a prototype (and the size is set), then, its YOUR railway, do what you wish, as long as the accessories fit :)
