Pets and railways

I was just browsing through some of my archive photos and came across this one of our now passed-on former rescue cat, Lolly (the name we inherited) watching the trains go by.

Having recently seen the antics of Trammayo`s cats and Miniman`s dog sleeping peacefully below the track, I wondered if this might be an opportunity for pet-loving forum members to indulge in some gratuitous railway-related pet picture posting.

Our fat furry creature (British Shorthair also rescued) has not been too keen on sitting on the track (Raised and in the shade) since she was bumped off it by a battery powered Stainz loco and rake that was not being sufficiently monitored at the time. Didn't do the loco a lot of damage fortunately when it derailed and then also fell off the section onto the decking below. One advantage of track power rather than RC battery is that the derailed unit usually stops dead. Cat was not amused and was completely unhurt. Only her pride suffered it seems.

We have had a few recent additions to the menagerie.

Oliver was a stray kitten that we acquired a few weeks ago - he may be small but he already bosses our other 2 cats about

Our 2 immature chicks Berta and Ernie are growing fast

Maynard is one of two rabbits - the other is Keira, a grey lop ear

Yes there was a thread much like this a while back and a very pleasant one it was too.

Our old station cat, Mog, went to serve the yardmaster in the sky a couple of years back and our new-ish kitten, Mogli, (now 2 years old) has not quite got the statesmanship manner of old Mog or the respect of things rail.

He has caused a fair but of mayhem chasing his daily quarry of wildlife (sometime two catches a day...little murderer!)

Mog of old .......come on, move me if you are hard enough....

mog come on if you think you are hard enough!.jpg

Our new addition (well 17 months ago anyway)
No respect at all

Meet Speedy - no kidding the little blighter is quick off the mark! Famous for causing derailments, even of the BR218 with added lead. The kois tend to prefer the shelter of their pond :D

Certainly not an Australian variety. We are not allowed to keep Australian native reptiles without a permit but a Long Necked tortoise found its way into my small lily pond and I din't know it was there till I discovered a half eaten goldfish..... I've called "it" Basil in honour of "Basil the rat"

One of our late cats called Boots would inspect any holes being dug and occasionally assume that they'd been dug for his convenience, literally!
