On board video camera

tramcar trev

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
Now Im thinking with the heavy investment in the RC speed control that I'd like to be able to upload videos taken by the motorman on my tramway ( yes it has to get running, I know) and I spotted this video camera. small enough to sit anywhere really and not overly expensive.....

HD video?? yes well a grain of salt there perhaps....Certainly I would end up with a pocket of key fobs :rolf::rolf::rolf:

I didn't make the original post, but I bought some of these little cameras.
Among my 100 odd clips on You Tube under Muddledlale are some from the key fob, one is:-

They are quite useful, but have some shortcomings.
Position has to be set up by trial and lots of error, since there is no viewfinder.
The date stamp can be intrusive, althought there is a way to obliterate it.
HD is questionable, but definition is quite acceptable.
The cameras themselve come in various specifications all using the same case and external appearance.
Cheap enough to play with.

Nothing wrong with the quality of those videos.... given the size of the camera its actually very good...... Nice railway too.

Interesting perspective Rob - well done.

Trev - I found something else of interest for you. Go to Rob's link, then got to Muddledale No.1 and then you'll see Cavan Swamp (garden) Railway. Click on that and then third down on R/H side - magnetic steered vehicle in garden railway.

Sorry its a bit convoluted.

I have to take the blame Trev.... check out my W&A RR #1 footage below for an idea of the quality.
I bought 3 - the only problem I found being the fixed date across the bottom of the display.

This one claims to have the ability to not display the date.... but there are heaps even one with a little recorder with screen for $26 and there is a wireless setup as well as pens with video record, sounds just like the sort of thing I need when trying to discuss something with my wife. "look my sweet here is exactly what you said"

Ahhh yes after a bit of research I found some Video of a guy, "the trolleybus man" and his creations are all magnetically guided.....I'm inspired to put a trolley bus in the tramway and spend 2 weeks making up the frog where the trolley bus overhead crosses the tramline.....

Funnily enough one of the three I bought doesn't have the date display, but if you've looked at my W&ARR film you'll see that I just 'pasted' some captions over it anyway

Have you thought of one of these? You could even feel as though you are sat in the cab and drive over your line 'on sight' as it were.

Anyone tried one of these yet? They appear to have something like this at the other Model railway at Hamburg, not the big HO one. I also saw one in use on an 0 Gauge line further South in Germany a few years ago. Also at the Tram Show both this year and two years ago at Kew Bridge a guy was letting people drive trams round the layout using a tram with one of these at each end and viewing via a desktop pc.

That is very interesting the Hong Kong one at £16.99, German one at ?34.79 approx £30.55. I wonder which one to risk buying, if the Hong Kong one gets past the import stuff it would probably be better as it is likely to have English instructions. But by the time her Customs and Postie have done their bit German one could end up cheaper. Hmmm decisions decisions. Or does anyone have a UK link to a supplier?

Try searching for "mini wireless video camera"

I did look at this wireless setup. It amazes me how inexpensive this stuff is now...
...it has power supplies and a battery connector....
I don't think this set up records video.
Presumably it has to be connected to a separate recorder.
Grateful for expert information.

The latter statement is true.

For recording loco runs etc then a cheap Key Fob camera is just as good.
Plenty of evidence on YouTube.
Just use Velcro to mount it when you have lined it up.
Universal Studios we ain't!!:rolf:
THE ultimate is go FPV (First Person Video) and use video goggles and find yourself in the seat of the loco. Aeromodeller forums is full of the info on this EXPENSIVE way to go!!
this would have to be connected to a laptop or pc to record though real time video could be then displayed... this one has a record function but is a bit expensive but there are cheaper ones around... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-DVR-Bu...ltDomain_0&hash=item35b636f460#ht_3605wt_1330
