Oil tank wagon

The last few weekends have incredibly hot (temps in the high 90's F), and this weekend it poured down, so have been inside working on workshop project. This one is just about finished.

It still need some touching up of paint, lamp irons and vac pipes, and of course a spray of varnish.

It's made from an LGB four wheeled coach chassis, with a tank made from two seameal containers we had from the dog food, bits of bass wood, wire etc. Transfers from GRS.

I think it will pass the' four foot' test, but doesn't stand close up inspection or the cruel gaze of the camera with flash!

I'll second that. It looks great; well done !

One small comment (and others may well put me right here) but I don't recall fuel oil/petrol tank wagons of that vintage having - or needing - lamp irons, given that the regulations would not have permitted them to run at the tail end of a train.

Good point about the lamp irons. However on the South Bucks Light Railway there are often movements with a loco and just one wagon (no brake van) to get a wagon load to a private siding. The 'rules' on this particular line are that lamps mut be shewn (GWR spelling!) during these movements. There's also a habit of leaving wagons parked and the local signal supervisor insists that lamps must be used then.

I think this is Rule 8 in the regulations ;-)

Absolutely fine. I was thinking standard gauge rules while of course the SBLR being an independant line has its own way of doing things.

The tank wagon is still a very nice bit of work

I think I have a couple left - the dogs have stopped having that, as they get it in their Kibble now! That probably puts an end to any more tank wagons....

I'll try and grab a photo and post it - may not be till the weekend though.
 
Don (and anyone else who's interested!), here's the seameal containers that I used for the tank of the wagon.
Having found that I have two more left, and another 4 wheeled chassis, I MAY build another one. If I do, I MAY even take photos as I do it and post them. On the other hand I'm not very organised and I also have an urge to do a 4 wheeled 'syphon' as I need something to carry milk churns about in.

Decisions, decisions.......

I made some from 2in pipe connectors the thread was on the old GSM forum but maybe somebody knows how to retrieve it?
