Has any built one of these and put a motor in it? How difficult and how successful? Thought it looked an interesting project.

Funnily enough, it actually comes up under "similar threads" beneath this one? "Der Adler first run with 2.4 GB radio"
[edit]
Nope - not an Occre kit after all (now that I've read the other thread. Sorry.

Found Rogersee's posting; he likes the kit, but not too keen on the motor. Shall keep the project in mind - for when I've finished my scratchbuilt sawmill, and possibly a model of Maywood Station, N.J.

I've built the Rocket model...its an involved build! I can't say anything about the motor other than it looks wimpy. I also have the Adler still in box. Not planning to build it until I can figure out how to power it and the Rocket.

I will add the instructions on the Rocket are very good all things considered. I also have a tram kit.

A few years back Keith T had a go at one, not sure how far he got though. He did a bit of a thread on it somewere
Ahhhh here it is

Nemo Ye Gods! What a memory, remembering my posts.

I am sad to say that I have not progressed much further.
Two main reasons, the first being that I found it near impossible to get the gears to mesh in the tender drive, the second is that my close vision has deteriorated more and have found it difficult to make much progress. Also, I found that there is a v nasty wobble on one of the drivers although it doesn't foul the frames and thankfully the frames help to mask my poor assembly.
All has not been lost though, the part finished boiler on its frames makes regular appearances on workshop siding of the NWGScale portable layout Coal Valley Mining and gets quite a bit of interest. "Wots that?" Is the usual query. They do say that any publicity is good publicity. :wondering:
I must revisit it and at least mate the tender with the boiler.

I was recently able to squeeze and Aristo Centercab brick under the tender of my Rocket, it wasn't that difficult but I did have to disassemble the lower chassis and realign the journals. I have a second Centercab brick for the Adler, but I will build the tender around it when the time comes. Sorry no pics at the moment as I'm still resetting my hosting after MLS botched my storage.

I built both the Rocket and Adler kits a few years ago and put the Occre motors in the tenders. I insulated the wheels of the tenders from the powered track and built a goods wagon for each set, so I could install R/C equipment. I also built the Occre carriage set - one set for each loco. Despite filling all the available space in the tenders and locos with steel shot, I could not get enough weight into them to provide much traction to pull the carriages. The models look very nice, and they run on my LGB track, but the overall performance was not what I had hoped for. I even tried adding tyres to the driving wheels on the tenders, but without any grooving these would not stay in place - even with glue. It was and interesting exercise, but not a resounding success - at least as far as the powering was concerned. The models look good on the shelf!:)

Thanks for taking the time to pen your helpful reply. I haven’t got round to buying the kit yet, but it’s still at the back of my mind somewhere.
